just posting so you guys can get a count from Org members. Anyway i hope to meet a lot of you at Otakon.
Uhm...you should read the thread before posting..the deadline was like 4 days ago and they already started pre-screening.
That's ok, we are waiting till we are done anyway. Need to finish DQ's and stuff anyway.

Note about DQ's: The reviewers are SERIOUSLY cracking down on people who have logos and stuff IN the video (like down in the bottom right corner and stuff) like studio logo, catroon network logo, etc. Also Those using origional Subtitles are being weeded out. So by the end of prescreening there will probibly be about a dozen or more DQ's or something.

I think he was refering to the Price is Right guess the number of vids made it past the DQ phase of the Otakon text.

Hey Matt I would like a ruling on something.
Let's say that a video submitted to Otakon Just won an award This Past weekend (6-14-03), and We have yet to review it.
More so, let's say that this video has won 3 awards already (two previous to this weekend).
Is it DQ'd or would we just put that it is trolling in the comments section when we actually DO review it?

Also, exactly WHAT constitutes trolling. Winning before the pre-screening review, winning before the contest deadline, wining before sending a vid in to a contest at all, or a combenation of these?

Taken straight fromt he submission guidelines:

"08. No Trolling for Prizes
Please submit only music videos that have not already won awards or prizes at other conventions' AMV contests. We don't mind if music videos are submitted to multiple conventions (including ours) all at the same time, but it's bad form to keep sending out an AMV that has already gotten you recognition elsewhere. "

If it hasn't won anything when it was submitted, it is fine. It says so very clearly in the rules.

It may not be explicitly in the rules, but IIRC there have been cases in the past where videos have still been dropped for winning after they were submitted...

I think I'd have to agree with that. Not that I don't like healthy competition, but if a video has received recognition (and in the case Hackerz is mentionining more than once), I think it's best to put in videos that have not. Hell we got ~190 entries, it'd be nicer to the other 189 entries :-P.

One thing I would like to know is how Matt keeps up with all the winners of every little contest to know which entries had won (prior to the deadline). It seems a bit difficult.

My big determinant for Trolling is Intent. If somebody already has an award at the time of submission and knows it, that's Trolling. If they don't, then there's no harm.

Simultaneous submissions to multiple conventions are more often the result of honest enthusiasm rather than sneaky calculation.

Plus, it seems that there are so many conventions these days, many of them doing AMV Screenings. The whole reason Otakon was started was that we wanted a good, local, anime con that we could drive to. Back then, it seemed like the only choice was either to fly out to Expo or try and find anime at regional Sci-Fi cons.

So far, there've been a very small number of AMVs that have actually had the no-trolling policy apply to them, and usually the submitters are decent enough guys to shift their submissions to being screened as non-competes without having to be asked.

Even if I miss something, thanks to the Internet it's pretty likely that another Otakon staffer or one of the AMV submitters will know about it and will mention it to me pretty quickly. Same situation for the plagarism issue.
