Let's try to look at the prospects of it realistically:
Something tells me that in reality, what's going to come out of this is a 21st Century Godzilla movie, except with all the aesthetics of the Matrix. Religious references will likely be toned down, action brought to the forefront, characters likely to be under-acted.
It wont be totally horrible, but it's not really gonna be what most Eva fans would want to see.
To get a widely-released live-action Eva movie that is truly representative of the series, something very convincing will have to happen - something that convinces ADV and/or the mainstream audiences. And I don't think BlackMonarch's letter will be enough.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I think the story is going to be under explained. Since the Production sketches show Asuka, I doubt that they will go into depth on any character. Thereis too much story to compact into 2-3 movie.

They could always do what they did with LOTR's, make 3 movies that are 3/4 hours long, now with 9-12 hours, the story can easily be told (hell, if you take of the intro/ending credits, eva only something like 8-9 hours long, so three films should do well.......... sorry if im plowing old ground here (if someone already mentioned it), but this kind of an approach appeals to me (no, i thought lotr was kinda crappy), meh, who cares, as long as they make a half decent action film, i'll be happy.................. if i want character development, i'll watch the anime........with the tv ending !!!!

Well, what they did with LOTR was great, and what's even better is that when you buy the DVD(s) you can see the enxtended version of each movie, which is practically the whole book with almost nothing cut out, and is around 8 or so hours.
However, if they did something like the Matrix with a "To Be Concluded" at the end, I'd kick myself for wasting my money to see it, then I'd kick all the directors, and I'd shoot the screenplay writer.

I suppose I should explain a couple things in more detail. When I said
a relationship between Rei and Shinji would be freudian, I was referring
to the fact that Rei is a clone of Shinji's mother. "Mrs Robinson" was the
character in the movie "The Graduate" who seduced a college student
dating her daughter.
Anyway, I've never heard of a four hour movie before, and IMHO four
hours is way too long. And as for a one-shot trilogy, they only do that
for "sure things" and IMHO a live action NGE movie is nowhere near
a sure thing, especially since a lot of the fans of the original series
are dead set against it. I think it wont even get off the ground.

ADV talked about the upcoming live action Evangelion at their panel at Fanime. The movie has a budget of $100 million and will be a retelling of the story. The July issue of Newtype USA should apparently contain a lot of information about the film. Source: Anime Tourist [ No More ]

i'm not sure if anyone has already posted on this, but i just got a fear inside him that if they do go with eva's true purpose, the whole self-acceptance thing, then american crowds, or others too maybe, will see the film as sissy like for being about being happy with who you are because you chose it.
and of course shinji will be a sissy in the movie, he was a sissy to begin with
i'm sure people will be comparing it to spiderman's toby maguire because he was a lot wussier than he had to be, but i think it was right since they had the spiderman movie be at the time of his uncle's death, how can't it be emotional, they compacted a lot of stuff for parker to take. but spiderman is off topic and for the most part different than eva, so enough of that
the kinda hippie soul to eva is what scares me, so if they stay true to eva or not, i think it has a rocky road ahead, but it will make it...down that $100 million yellow brick road
(no i'm not making a reference to the wizard of oz to compare it to eva, i'm just saying that a whole lot of cazoo (money)
