Suggestion X-post

Post by Rising_Shadow » Fri Jun 27, 2003 5:42 pm

Sorry for the X-post, but I have to get this off my chest. Hopefully it might help some.

Just a post from a long time AMV viewer.

Okay what the hell is up with everyone? Is there any way you can filter the crap that people upload? I've downloaded 20 videos of which ONLY 6 had a video quality that is watchable. Of those six (and this is at least forgivable) 2 had nothing to do with song or anime. Hell they were just scenes put to music. It didn't even cut with the music!

Most horrible things about the videos that are put up today:

1. software to make the video is available for free now, so a large number of really horrible-can't-even-see-what's-going-on videos are being made. STOP IT. We have the technology to make DVD quality footage now. If you can't do that learn how. Don't post until then.

2. NOBODY WANTS TO SEE LINKIN PARK DBZ videos. If you make one for the first time great. Don't share it. Same goes for Evanescence - Bring me to life. The horse is dead and it's been beaten enough. There's not even a bloodstain left. You're just beating the ground now.

3. Sound Quality should be at least to the radio standards. If you would change the channel on the station if it played the song then ditch it.

4. Finally, be considerate. Look at your video objectively. If you would delete the file after watching half of it (or even all of it) don't upload it. You're just crowding out the good videos that are hard enough to find as is.

The only way you really have of filtering is to look at the opinions the video has received or the file format. If it's an .rm or a .wmv, don't bother with it. Just a general rule.

And not only have your complaints been heard a million times before, but you're crossposting in the wrong forum ::clicks tongue disapprovingly::

Oh I don't know, I thought that the numbered stuff looked like some good amv suggestions ^_^

Anyway:
Sorry everyone about this post. I didn't mean for it to be a flame. I know a lot of you probably don't know how to do some of the more advanced techniques with video footage.

What I meant by my rather rash posting was that a number of people appear to be just throwing together some anime clips from their favorite fansub and putting music to the action (and sometimes speaking) sequences with little to no consideration for timing. Please, anime music videos should not be like the modern art found in certain museums (i.e. a canvas with blue paint splattered on it or a toilet bowl on a stand). I just think that if you know that you can do better then you should try your best at it. If you don't have the right quality footage, don't settle for second best! Get out there and find the high quality episode you need. If you know that your video is not up to par with what's out there. Just hold onto it. Maybe you're burned out on working on it. Okay, go take a break do something else. Come back to it in a month or so and see if you can solve the problems you’re having.

Just go and look at some of the "new videos" that have been submitted within the past 10 days. Most of them are of such poor quality that you can't even make out the character faces. When you're designing a visual artwork (which is what AMV's are really) you should pay attention to how nice it looks. I've seen videos submitted where you couldn't tell if the anime were Chobits or Vampire Hunter D without the author mentioning it. Come one people. Make a few calls here. We have this great server that should contain artwork. Instead we're putting up videos of such poor quality that it's giving AMV's a bad name.

I think you kinda misunderstood what's meant by AMV Suggestions. AMV Suggestions means sharing ideas for AMVs, not suggestions on how not to make crappy ones.

hypothetical situations

Post by Rising_Shadow » Fri Jun 27, 2003 9:24 pm

That's true. If I were a lawyer I'd argue the point, but I'm not :) Regardless, I have the very thin hope that with my two posts someone who might be making those horrid videos will actually read it. Honestly though (as someone pointed out to me) I doubt anyone who makes bad video visits the forums -_-

Hah, yes he is cute and scary. Especially if you've seen his flash cartoons. I'm not too sure where yours comes from, but it's definately scary too O.o;;
