I've fucked every male on this forum with steamy text, though half of them don't even realize it yet, but I'm still a noob, so I want to say my piece.
I had my first video and and nearly raped Omni with mean text when he gave it a score that I didn't want. But you just don't know then. You're so excited about the amv, that you're just in a hurry to show everyone and don't pay attention to nething else.
I read the guides, read the damn premiere book, watched some tuturials, and bombarded klinky with questions. You feel more prepared when you have an idea for an AMV. But that's all it does =\.
I think that this is getting too competitional. If you want to get better, that's fine, but aiming to be the best creator and doing this for 'popularity' and free sex from fyrt is just crap. It takes ne fun out of it.
That's great when someone wants to upload a video they had fun doing and show it someone else. But if you're saying that there's too many linkin ball z videos, well you could say that there's a lot of movies in a particular genre. I don't think using an Anime that's 'rarely been used' makes you a better AMV maker. It's what you can do with the video that makes you a 'good creator'.
I'd like a cookie.

Hmmm. I made my first AMV about a month before I found this site and realized that AMV's were made in such abundance. I've read the guides, some were informative, especially from a technical stand-point since I'm new to editing.
I hate DBZ and Linkin Park, so I haven't watched any Linkin Park videos. I'm sure there are good ones, better quality than the AMV's I've made available for upload. But I think it's all about what you like. I really enjoyed making my second and third AMV's, and get a kick out of watching them, but I can't watch them after downloading alot of the videos here cuz they remind me that mine are crap. I think people who actively participate here do try to improve their work, while Omni may be right in that some people just make stuff to be part of the "me too" crowd. For myself, I'll say as a newbie that pretty much everybody I've conversed with here was very friendly and helpful.

I feel your pain Omni but have come to the conclusion that its pointless to try to do anything about it. The only thing you can do is refuse to download what you don't want to, which shouldn't be to hard. I do agree with you though, that the overall vibe of this place is completely disinigrating at a rapid pace.
The fact is, more and more and more and more TERRIBLE videos are popping up. I feel this is due to the Dangeling Carrot. If you make something easy and free, everyone's going to do it, and therefor tons of shit will pop up because there are WAY to many people out there who just suck. Period.
I don't buy the "everyone starts somewhere" line either. My first video was worlds better than the last 50 videos I've downloaded here. That seems to be real taboo to say around here but its the truth. No thats not an opinion, its a fact. Out of the (checks...) 19 thousand fucking videos here, I'd say about 18,000 are worse than the dogshit I step in while I moe my lawn.
Now I think quite a few people are going to call me arrogent or elitest. I don't need to be arrogent to differenciate between dogshit and talent. All that takes is an IQ above 45. If someone has talent, they will display it at even the earliest stage of video editing. During the DBZ/LP video that they make there will be at least some beat hits, a modicum of pacing, or a good set of overlays that make you say "oooh that was cool", and not make you zone out only to remember 2 minutes later that your actually watching a music video and now an episode of downloaded anime with music playing 3 rooms away (because thats how terrible it will sound).
Stop making shit people. Jesus, go write some poetry.

Is there really a problem? I don't think so.
Sure, you'll have videos that are just the same, boring, badly-edited stuff. Then you get videos like this that are just like O_o
I've found that if you want to change people's perceptions of things, you do it yourself. My dad, who isn't an anime fan (but is a fan of Moulin Rouge), saw "Sappy Self-Indulgence" and was like "hey, that's pretty cool".
So...yeah.
On the other question posed by this thread:
I made my first AMV almost a year ago...and I still suck :/
