Post by Quu » Thu Jul 03, 2003 5:05 pm

Adobe is just about to announce thier new premiere program... "Premiere Pro"

its basically Premiere 7...

anybody have thoughts, impressions on it?

I have not used it my self... but I was talking to one of the beta testers... he likes it alot... apaerently all tracks become A/B roll tracks... and all effects are key framable... also... the motion and compositing engine is supossed to be transplented from AE...

If they fixed the multitude of bugs that cause 6.5 to crash left and right on me, I'll definitely at least look into it... combining some of the features of AE does sound like a good idea...

On the other hand, given the amount of trouble 6.5 has been, I would have to agree with Zarxrax in being a bit wary about it. That and I'm not too sure I want to shell out yet more money for the upgrade. I'd probably be most happy with a patch the fixed 6.5.

I didn't know about Premiere, but I read in one of the comp mags (*maybe* Computer Arts Monthly) that all of Adobe's major software were getting updates to get ready/be compatible with the new DVD authoring software ("Adobe Encore DVD") they're gonna take pre-orders on soon.

Paul (Red Wolf) posted something to the ML about this- updates to AE and Premiere are apparently going to be available in the next few months. From Adobe's website- they're apparently adding vector paint capablilties to AE and adding more functionality to the masking capabilities (the 'auto-tracing alpha channels' sound interesting). Premiere Pro is also listed, but there's next to nothing really useful in the way of what the upgrades to it over 6.5 are (though hopefully stability will have been a major priority).

As Paul pointed out on the list- it appears that Premiere Pro will be XP only ("Built for the exceptional performance of Microsoft® Windows® XP systems..."). This does not sit at all well with me, as the last thing I need is to not only have to shell out the $200 or so to upgrade Premiere, but also have to buy the "upgrade" to Windows XP from Windows 2000. I'm quite happy with W2K, thank you, and at least one piece of my hardware simply won't work in XP. Grr.
