When amvs turn into football and we have announcers, then you can start to make comments like that... until then you might want to avoid them.
I've met Brad and Vlad and I think they know me fairly well enough to know that I meant no disrespect. However if they are offended, I do appologize. A poor choice of words perhaps, but I was only trying to make an example that a veteran's video isn't guaranteed to win.

Vlad has the right attitude about it, as he doesn't care if he wins or not. He makes videos according to his own likes and if others happen to like them, all the better.

The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

With all that out of the way, I'd just like to say that the MC at the masqurade sucked. :p :p :p

That she did. Very much so.

In her defence though, when she was asked to do this she expected to have a script all prepared. No script was prepared for her, and so she just had to wing it. I don't think she was aware of how sensitive the AMV competition is to comments, and part of the MC's job is to do MC'ish things like praise whatever it is she's MC'ing or whatever activity happens to be going on, which is a no-no at the AMV contests.

However, I do know for a fact that she did hear quite a few of the negative comments that were strewn at her, and OH MY GOD were some of them bad. They exceeded FAR beyond the threshold for excessive, and I am amazed that she was able to maintain herself through it without breaking down. It was showing a bit in her attitude near the end, but still...

The behavior by some AMV creators at the competition made me feel very ashamed to consider myself part of that group.

Actually he said the masq. MC I remember him from doing Fanimes Masqs He did the Mike myers german dude impression the whole time, which I thought was hilarious. ppl gave him a hard time here at AX though, I will say some of his jokes were pretty bad though, but I don't remember last years MC saying anything funny at all...

For the AMV contest, the only bad things I recall her saying was Drama vids are kinda boring, and Yatta! sometime after it played. I know there was some heckling, but I don't remember what was said. Or if it was even from the amv seaction, well the finalist section at least. The heckling from the amv section during masq I heard loud and clear, and very often (-_-")

To put a blunt stick in the hard calechi packed ground in the mojave desert:

The competition at AX was my first. of course i had only been making videos since december of 2002. I put in my 2 that were completed one was truncated (silly me for making a Eva vid hehe). Neither had made it. I am not mad at this nor did it alarm me. In fact it allows me to focus on next year! I just didnt like the seating of the creators that did not make it. but in the end I got to see my compotition. As that was the reason I went. its hard to be unbiased as a creator, which is why we have the fans vote.

And that is my opinion.

Yeah, but fans are biased in that they vote for their favorite anime/song or flashy effects. At the same time, they also vote for "big names" because they assume their videos are good. At the same time, the inverse can be true in that they expect too much.

So yeah, audience voting has it's problems too. That's why I believe in Blind Creator voting with no bumpers.

Blind creator voting:

Nice concept, now is that where we take a group of Creators that have not submitted videos or have them vote on all but the videos they have submitted?
