i must say that miyazaki can appeal to different audiences with the variety of films he has produced. Although i have only seen Grave of the Fireflies, Princess mononoke, and Spirited away, i've noticed his other titles as well. Grave of the Fireflies definitely is not what i would consider the same genre or appealing to the same audience in that manner as Spirited away is. I do believe that Spirited away is targeted to the younger audience and may be conceived to older audiences as a well animated film. Personally though, i don't believe that the "bizzare-ities" of this film are held in high esteem of older audiences. Sure, they may enjoy the film, but really, it isn't tailored to their suiting. i don't want to have to compare it to anything disney has done....cause they really haven't (at least for what i can recall). the only comparable thing that i believe can be drawn from this is that adults that saw this film probably didn't think anything more of it than something like a disney film....other than the fact it was japanese and had different themes. What i'm saying is that the ending was a happy ending much like that of umm....well, all of disney films. For what it's worth, i really didn't enjoy this film, and was tempted to walk out of the theatre about half-way through. my little brother was the only reason. oh well, i'm glad that i did see it that way i know what everyone's argueing about. now....if only miyazaki would make a romantic comedy......

me love anime.......yes.......

Spirited Away is perhaps one of the greatest movies I've seen in the longest time. also anyone who has watched the movie would know that it was not a "shit monster" but a river spirit who's river had be trashed and polluted by humans. You really should wait until you know what your talking about before you open your mouth. I'll say that it's not something everyone will enjoy but try to get some reliable info before you make your self look like a moron.

Look Inept whatever This is an old thread. When I saw this movie Disney hadnt even touched it. It was a videotape shot in japanese movie theatre andthen someone added subtitles. There was nothing to infer that the shit monster was a river spirit it looks like a big pile of shit. I've seen the dub to this since then and its obviously now not a shit monster. OK. That being aside lame ass ho hum miyazaki eco hippie film. You can keep this shit give me more love hina and lum. Next. Ok but chihoro or whatever her name is with her little pug nose can be wacked to if caught in the right scene.

I haven't seen Spirited Away yet, but nothing sparks an interest like heated controversy.

So what is wrong with spirited away, its not the worst Anime I have seen and actually the graphics where excellent.

As for the shit monster, I thought it was cool that it was a water spirit, but my favorite was No Face, love the frog part.

I am not saying its in par with Blood, The Last Vampire or Vampire Hunter D but then its not that kind of movie anime.

I will bet non of you saw Lilo and Stitch, which was funny, but no it was just not mature enough wast it, well wast it!

I saw lilo and stitch on an airplane and it was Good! I like the whole hawaii thing. 8) Anyway, i thought Spirited Away was one of the best anime i have ever seen and if anyone dares to insult Miyazaki then they should be severely beaten. even if Spirited away was made for 10 year old girls it is a great movie for people of any age and , have you really wacked off to chihiro? maybe i should try  sounds fun! :D

Yeah.... I cant say I've ever whacked it to Chihiro.... And I dont feel like trying.

Yeah, Fireflies wouldnt appeal to younger kids at all... its one of the saddest animes I've seen.

I think your speaking out of your ass, mroni. besides the mentioning of the river spirits and Chihiros mentioning of a filled in river, I dont see how the hell you could have come away thinking that there was anything "eco" about it, much less hippie.
