I thought Escaflowne was pretty g0od......but don't expect the same of Escaflowne: Girl in Gaea (the movie) ....it was a Total disappointment and very confusing also :(

Sorta reminds me of the CCS 1st movie. Totally sucked.

Really a great show.. so much different from Love Hina heh :P
so much different?? you mean REALLY DIFFERENT. Hina is the grandma in Love Hina. though she is only 2 to 3 eps. im guessing thats why they call it that.
Well its also possible that its called Love Hina because the story takes place in Hinata Springs.
Well, Hina was the lady who was in charge of it right? Therefor the name.

THE NAME
I highly doubt that the anime is named after the grandmother, then again who knows.
an alternate theory:
[DISCLAIMER - THE EXPLANATION THAT FOLLOWS IS PROBABLY NOT CORRECT, AND MAKES AKAMATSU LOOK LIKE EITHER A PERVERT OR FAN-HATER]

'Hina' in 'Love Hina' is never written in kanji, which could settle this question. 'Hina' is also a valid pronunciation of a valid writing of the English word 'doll'. If you can't take this to it's necessary conclusion, that's ok; you're not old enough to be thinking about stuff like that in the first place.

In the unlikely event that this assessment is correct, we must then look at Akamatsu's intent: is this a pun to flesh out Keitaro's loser nature? A hook to pull in fans, like the allleged dirty lyrics in "Louie, Louie"? Or did he think that it would go over the heads of his fans as well, allowing him to laugh at them as losers?

We'll never know, because this was a stupid conjecture in the first place, and isn't any more true than you make it.

Shin Hatsubai is a Premiere-free studio. Insomni-Ack is habitually worthless.

Given I somewhat agree in that I prefer the TV series a lot more (my favorite show), but what was confusing about the movie? Perhaps it's something that can be answered.

I can described Escaflowne but what I saw on the back of my eye lids as I fell asleep. I remember samurais in the beginning, lesbo action, a bitchy cat girl and some weird flash back. Then I woke up! AWESOME!

Correction: I can only describe Escaflowne by what I saw on the back of my eye lids as I fell asleep.
