How so? And how? They lack the resources to put their ideas into action. About all they can really do right now is hope that member nations abide by their declarations. They can't really provide much serious help in areas where military help is required (Somalia, for instance).

And the UN has yet to truly fix any problems. Cambodia, for instance, is possibly worse off now than it was before the UN came in.
MAS PRODUCTIONS wrote:The US in general has a stupid notion that they have some right to boss around the rest of the world, which we shouldn't.
Why don't we have the right? It's not good that we do it so often, but then again, our power isn't entirely political. We have a lot of economic power, and we have a lot of cultural power. Both of these factors allow us a lot of influence. Many of the nations we can boss around don't have those, or military might, to do so, especially on a global scale.
MAS PRODUCTIONS wrote:If this world is ever gonna make it another 100 years we need to have a United Nations. Single rogue governments are gonna end up destroying this world.
So, you're essentially advocating a possible global rogue government made up of many rogue governments, if I'm not mistaken?

How do the policy concerns and ideas of say, Saudi Arabia (a nation run under a VERY conservative theocracy), relate to to governing ideals or policies of America, England, China, Japan, or most of the world? Or are we not going to give Saudi Arabia's government an equal voice? If we aren't, why should Saudi Arabia be held to the UN's law? And if Saudi Arabia chooses to ignore the UN (and maybe cut off oil supplies in anger), then what? Military policing to make them comply? How is that good?

I honestly fail to see how a global policy making body dictating how countries do things is good for us all. Or how it would even work. We have so many different cultures, religions, psychologies, things of that nature, that making uniform policies that would satisfy even a slight majority would be very hard to do.
MAS PRODUCTIONS wrote:The US is gonna become another England. Back in the day England was the bad ass in the world, but they went around throwing their weight around and finally everyone got fed up with it and turned on them.
Not really, as I recall. There were a few uprisings, but mostly, England decided to let their colonies and territories go, as global colonialism no longer fit into the post-WWII political climate, and the British economy could not support it.

In some respects, this was a bad thing. It left a power vacuum that, among others, the Soviet Union was able to try and fill (by supporting Marxist/Communist insurgency, for instance).
MAS PRODUCTIONS wrote:If this arrogance that most Americans have doesn't fade we are gonna have serious problems in the future. I know most of you might disagree, but I see the past repeating itself, what makes it worse is now we have weapons that could destroy the world and that really scares me at times.

Anyways thats how I see it.
So what's the solution? If the US steps down, then China will definitely step up to bat - and that could be worse than the current status quo.

Kthulhu... I would agree with most of your points if we currently had a president whom I felt was compitant in managing global affairs. However, we currently do not, and thus I have to disagree with you.

We have no right to boss any other country around. Tell me something Kthulhu, if someone like say goldburg came and pushed you around and made you do whatever he said would you say that was fair? No one should boss anyone else around because they are stronger. Its just bullying. If you believe in peace and justice you would see that its wrong. And true other countries would probably step up to take advantage if we didn't, but just because we do doesn't make it right. Im sorry if you dont feel this way, but I was raised to believe that doing the right thing was the correct thing to do in life, and pushing people around was wrong. True we need to defend ourselves but using power to get our way is wrong.

Oh, I concur. However, there are plenty of other lousy leaders out there. Think about having the combined power of all them telling us what to do  .

Im really starting to worry about him getting another term in. All the democrat's look like dumb asses right now. Non of them look like presidential material. We need to get Perot back into the race, he was almost a comic relief for every election he was in.
