ancient times - samori / black ninja's
present times
near future /space thingy - with huge robots (ex , escaflone, gundam wing)

Im more partial to comedic fanservice (need I list?) personally. Its not on your lsit but the list is quite narrow.

OMG!!!!!!!!!! i've been dieing to see a tenchi muyo episode..... i love the animation of that , so far from the pics i've seen it looks like a funny show, but also serious at some points

Okay, ancient times, present times, future, etc != storyline. (Says the English major and writer, so I would hope I would know.) Storyline would be more like: bildungsroman, romance, hero monomyth, save the world, attrition tragedy, noble sacrifice, etc. The era would be more correctly referred to as an element of setting, or if you were more interested in the objects (e.g. samurai) than the actual time period, you would want to refer to the objects as tropes, and ask people what set(s) of tropes they like best.

Now, what anime has a good storyline:
Banner of the Stars and Crest of the Stars
Strawberry Eggs
Berserk
Fushigi Yuugi (the seiryuu side mostly)
Irresponsible Captain Tylor

And, what anime has a cool set of tropes:
Utena
Angel Sanctuary
Earthien
Pet Shop of Horrors
Bakuretsu Hunters
Maze
(I know there's some good science fiction I'm forgetting... :/ In terms of english novels I'm normally more of a science fiction fan than a fantasy fan, but in terms of anime the science fiction seems more likely to have dumb worldbuilding and the fantasy more likely to have creative worldbuilding. Basicly I like high school and college tropes, military tropes, feudal tropes, magic tropes, and some science fiction and fantasy tropes but not others.)

Yeah, I like animes that have angels as tropes. I dunno why I just do, angels are pretty kick ass.

I think my favorit type of anime storier are rominic comimdes. If you look at the anime I own you can tell) Ah my Goddess, Love hina, and the lastest under that list is Onegai Teacher (Please Teacher)

What I like is an anime whose main character is a whiny teenage boy, who is bashful around girls. One day he gets a big robot, or learns he has special powers that only he can use to fight off some threat to the world.

I don't think an anime has been made yet that is like this, though.
