i must agree with omniinuyasha. it wasnt that it was bad just terribly overated. everyone was like its so great i love it its the best in the world *note exaggeration(sp?)* it had its moments but it wasnt as good as i had expected it to be. i thought it might be more apealing to someone my age (17) but it really didnt....it did have a lot of symbolism but i think that only the older audience actually got it. anyways i think it was good it just didnt appeal to me

Just because you're a complete dumbass, it is wrong of you to assume that everyone is as sadly devoid of intelligence (and many other qualities) as you are, you sad, sad little nothing.Mroni wrote:Urgh you're missing the point maybe I don't know. This movie should not be shown to a 10 year old girl. A bunch of tripping teenagers yes a 10 year old girl no.

There are two kinds of people in this world:
Those who divide people into two kinds of groups
and those who don't.

note: Don't read this post if you haven't seen the movie already. Then again, not sure why you're reading this thread if you haven't ^^;
As to MrOni's claim that it shouldn't be shown to 10 year old girls... Haven't you heard of fairy tales? Alice in Wonderland, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, etc. They are all kinda trippy if you think about it, but that's supposed to be there, it's the fantasy element of a fairy tale. Granted, the no-face would be scary to some 10 year old kids, but I'm sure a wolf trying to eat a girl would also be scary. Besides, these are _10_ year old girls, not 8 or 6 year old ones, so a little suspense and a little disgust isn't that bad. I doubt Miyazaki would have made such a strong point for the parents's gluttony if the parents weren't turning into pigs.
As for boring... I didn't find it really that boring. A lot of scenes had a nice subtle tingly feeling to them. For example, the whole baby at first relying on the fly to carry him around but eventually learning to walk, and the whole Chihiro learning to depend on herself carries the nice motif of children learning to become independent and self reliant. Then there's the whole thing w/ 'Yu'baba. Not sure if the signs were translated in the R1 DVD version, but all the signs had 'Yu' on them. The kanji means 'Oil', which can be tied in to the whole gluttony thing. If you extend that further, you can attribute that to greed. In fact, you could translated Yubaba as "Grandma of Oil" and hence "Grandma of Greed." There is also a nice irony introduced when Yubaba turns Chihiro's parents into pigs because they were greedy, except that she herself was greedy.
Hence, if you're not willing to look into these subtleties, I suggest that you do not say an anime 'sucks.'

Alice in Wonderland was written by a pedophile (it's a known fact that Mr. 'Carrol' was one).
Hah.
I still read it as a kid and still consider it to be one of the first steps in my life that I took towards learning to appreciate art.
Spirited Away is art. That's why it's ambiguous enough to be perceived by some as a bad anime. But that's the beauty of ambiguity...

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
