Does anyone actually like dubbing????????

I prefer Subs mainly cos I feel I gain more of an insight into the storyline/characters that way.
Plus some of the jokes don't translate well
Still I usually end up watching both since my bro prefers the dubs

Most people here already know how I feel so I'll make it short.

I like subs because it is in the originally intended language. This goes for all things. If a movie was made in germany with german actors, german creator, etc...I watch it in German (like Run, Lola, Run) and so on. I feel that watching in the originally intended language gives you more insight on how the creator wanted characters and certain statements and scenes to sound.

Dubbing over (and not only in anime mind you) a voice well..dubs over that original intent and you lose (to a degree) the original purpose the creator wanted. Given, I will admit some dubs are pretty good and fairly accurate to the original language, but I am a purist and prefer seeing things as pure as possible (i.e. as close to the creator original vision as possible).

With dubs, the creator has no input and thus I find them 2nd hand in emotional and vocal talent.

with live-action i almost ALWAYS prefer subbed because the dubs just don't look right 99% of the time since u have actual lip movements instead of animated lips which don't get into the detailed movement of real lips (most of the time)
plus i've had a lot of bad experiences watching movies done in english and dubbed over to spanish (when my parents watch TV) and it's just sad, they have old guys with high voices and little boys sounding like barry white.

if u thought english dubs were bad, u should try hearing spanish dubs, most of the time the characters go into hyperactive mode when they speak, it'sliketheytrytosayeverythinginaslittletimeaspossible.

of course there are always exceptions to the rule, but Spanish Voice Actors just don't cut it when compared to even English Dubs

Japanese Voice Actors Rule!!

but i think old martial arts films will always hold the crown in bad dubbing, even the original dubs are off (because they film the video first and add the audio later-tradition in Hong Kong films)

No they aren't. Both have the original creator's input: casting, voice inflectinos, emotions, etc.

Given I will concur on the lip-movements, but my point with the original post is that I prefer the original over something that is dubbed OVER...no matter if it is animated or live-action. I would rather have what the creator wanted the viewer to hear...whether it be anger, happiness, high-pitched, etc.

This isn't one of those JAPAN RULEZ!!!!111122!!!! things...I just prefer the original since I want to hear what the creator wanted us to hear. A dub you get someone else's interpretation of something...or them trying to mimic it (which they some times do fairly well).

At the same time, it's a "live and let live" situation. You're free to enjoy anime however you wish, but at the same time, I very much dislike it when people say "better than the original" since that entire concept is impossible. How can you be better than the original when the creator is taken out of the picture? At the same time, I will accept that people PREFER one over the other. That's a lot more realistic and more opinion based than fact.

yea, that was a good movie ... i tried to get my philosophy teacher to show it in class for our exesentialism section of teh human nature unit ... but she never got around to it on the first semister ... or the second ... odds are she lost the cd i gave her with the movie ...

I want to watch that movie again now ...

I really have no pref. between the two. What I have noticed is that if I start watching an anime dubbed then later subbed I prefer the dubbed version and vis versa. And I know I am not the only one who feels that way. You just get used to hearing the characters voice in a certain way.

Subbed stuff just gets on my nerves. I sat through "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" with no problems, but I can't stand the voice actors/actresses in anime. Between the Japanese language, and their high-pitched, scratchy sound, it really bugs me.

Also, when I can't sleep, that's usually when I'm watching "Slayers" on the International National channel. But I have a lot of difficulty keeping my eyes on the tv screen late at night, and my vision is a little fuzzy. So, it becomes incredibly difficult to keep up with the story.

I like sub and dubbed. Dubbed is not confusing and makes it so I know what the hell is going on. Sub allows me and my friends to do MST3K style with the show so I also like sub as well.
