It depends on the file format for me. With wmvs and most avi files (divx, xvid), I use Windows Media Player 9. One or two older divx files I've found play better on my DivX Player 2.1. For mpgs I prefer to use Winamp3 (my personal favorite player), and for mpg2 I usually use BSPlayer, though I've run across a few that play better in Winamp 1.87. It really just depends on the file (and then I have my rm player and quicktime player - but I hate those).

If all files were in mpg1, I'd happily use Winamp3 for everything. ^_^;

WMP 9 with the old-style skin. 'Cause... if I were so bored with what I'm watching that I were to start caring more about the player than what's on it... I'd take it as a sign that I've been doing this too long. :?

I use Winamp3 with the MMD3 skin. I love it.

I use several different players based on the application, type of file, and actions. I use:

Windows Media 9
General video vieweing, playback, nice tools. And MS!

WinAmp
Complex audio routing and playback... bought by AOL

QuickTime
Great for things like Export Frame to Image (useful!)

RealOne
For the occasional "Real" stuff not in DirectShow (file stuff)

Zoom Player
Nice DirectShow optins, a must have for watching VOBs

EO Video
The only thing that works with hacked WMA Lossless 9

Other than that, it's mainly just your personal preference.

Some file organization options (WMP, Real), tools (WMP, Quicktime) are nice ,you can tweak around (Zoom), and of course versatile plugin system (WinAmp).

WMP 9 for me... I'm too lazy to chase up something better, I'd rather download a vid than a program to play a vid anyday.

I've got Zoom player and DivX player and Real but they tend to annoy me more than anything else... and how is this for sad I didn't even know winamp could play vid I thought it was just audio, or is it just that the older version could only play audio? or am I just to oblivious to the world?

The higher version winamp [again, I hate 3.0] 2.9+ does play video. The thing is, you can tweak the equalizer settings like crazy in it to REALLY suck the audio out of your anime music video. [audio btw is a lot of the music video for me and if I can enhance it with winamp, hey, yay for me! ^_^]

Windows Media Player 6.4 = classic = old school...

Used to be one of my favs, until I recently discovered that NOTHING but Winamp can play certain movie files that contain a VERY odd sound codec that WMP or DivX CAN'T play... [why, I don't know, but I'm just going to "stuff" the matter so to speak and use Winamp since it'll play ANYTHING now... ^_^]

I've been using media player classic to play videos ever since sasami started getting very slow -_-;

I also use mplayer-win32 for those pesky proprietary formats

Given the suffix, I assume this is not "media player", but actually mplayer. And therefore, I'll say "Yay!". (Does it work well under windows?)

I use mplayer almost exclusively. (Under FreeBSD) Close enough that nothing else is worth mentioning anyway.
