I'm surprised by that article that it doesn't really address pregnancy. Yes, men are more likely to take multiple mates than females, yes, I think that's human (animal) nature. If you stop looking at morality and elevated thought, women are less likely to have multiple mates (to sleep around ^_~ ) because once they become pregnant they can't reproduce again until the baby is born. Any innate drive to further the species (sowing wild oats ring a bell?) is dampened once a female becomes pregnant. Males are not hindered once they help a female to become pregnant, there's nothing to stop them from going and furthering the species by impregnanting another and another and so on.

Now, there *is* the territorial drive that makes the males stay with the females they impregnate (sleep with, fuck regularly) - the harem, the pride, their mates. They don't want their females going out and getting pregnant by other males - what's the point of their holding a territory if females do that? So the males should sleep around as long as they take responsibility for their females. And females have less urge to sleep around because the baby is already there for them - it's inside of them. For 7 to 9 months.

When you take 'human' nature into account, and here I do mean the ability to have morals and to think rationally (right and wrong) you can look at culture. People have the ability to withstand any instincts (even flight or fight impulses can be overcome - with conditioning). Animal nature may lead males to reproduce as often as their bodies allow them to (while females remain dormant the moment they're impregnanted), but that isn't an excuse for men to go around spredding their seed. Humans have the ability to distinguish 'right' from 'wrong' - and inside a culture where sleeping around and cheating is 'wrong' - men know better.

Women now (spiting animal nature) have the ability to avoid pregnancy - and so long as they don't get pregnant, they'll have the same animal urge that males do - make those babies. But again, rational thought warns them that birth control is not entirely perfect, and once the baby is generated they'll have it inside them for 7-9 mnths of their lives (barring abortion or accidents), and women who get pregnant without a dedicated mate will suffer in current society - so they have a damper on their need to run around and 'procreate' or 'further the species' despite birth control.

What I'm trying to get at is that without rational thought (right and wrong) males have more of a drive to have sex because they don't become pregnant themselves. And women (without birth control) have a natural (genetic unless they're sterile) dampering mechanism - they become pregnant. So women are less likely to have sex with multiple partners (for the purpose of making babies - I'm not touching the idea of having sex for pleasure here, just the instinct to reproduce), while men have nothing to stop their instinct from being to impregnate multiple mates.

And with our culture, men have a reason to go against any 'primitive' instinct to reproduce - the ability to judge right from wrong. And women have the same - as well as cultural reasons not to have random sex and get impregnated by a mate that won't be loyal. So even if there is an innate instinct to 'further the species' through sex, men and women both know it's 'wrong' by cultural definitions, so there's no excuse for either to do it. That report (discussion) doesn't justify men cheating - it just explains the instinct - an urge that rational humans can overcome.

I like this thread... The majority of guys I know think you HAVE to have a girlfriend to be part of a "higher" crowd...

My $0.02. Girls can be quite a bit of trouble. Don't ask me why, I have my reasons...

This also reminds me, of the anime Tatoon Master. The dub was pretty damn good and funny, though they changed the names to "American" ones...

That little article will apply to some people. Heck, it applies to LOTS of people. But for me, those people are simply undisciplined losers who treat sex like an addicitive drug. Sleeping around with like 5+ girls at once. Oh yeah, you da man... [note sarcasm...] For me, it takes a REAL man to stick it out with one woman... And the same goes the other way, a REAL woman to stick it out with one man...

I have the highest respect for those marriages that last long as heck. Those TRULY are the people who can stick to their guns with the words, "for better or for worse".

Why am I speaking about marriage in a thread about sex? Those of you with enough braincells can figure out the relavence from there I'm sure...

Don't get hussled over such things.

It's only an "OBSERVATIONAL STUDY." And thus no sources of causation can be proved, however they can be inferred and implied but never proved. Only "EXPERIMENTS" can do actually prove cauasation.
