Are you a PROCRASTINATOR?

Post by danielwang » Wed Aug 13, 2003 11:35 pm

I am, and no amount of help can help me now.

I make people wait 2 mintues beofre I come. I am 15 minutes late to every scientific conference and symposium. I do homework last minutes. I have a term paper due today and I'm surfing the forums.

I'm a perfectly intelligent person and I get C's. Why? I enjoy learning and I commit myself to it... so what happens?

Did I mention it takes me half an hour to wash the dished PERFECTLY, 7 minutes at McDonals? etc?

Stupid procrastinators. Including Me, Myself, and I. Stupid me...

Well, you can be a procrastinator without being dumb about it. ^_^; In school I always did my work at the last second. I'd purposely wait for weeks until the night before the research paper was due and *then* write it. But I work better under pressure, and my grades were good. As for other things, I procrastinate as much as I can, but not to the point where I'm anal about it. I like the 'minimal effort' rule - do what you have to in order to get the grade, and coast the rest of the way. It works for most things in life, and you can break the rule for things you really care about. I know studying for exams was one of the few times when I *didn't* procrastinate - because I knew better. So it's off and on. But I'd rather put something off for as long as possible - so long as it doesn't hurt anything, I don't see a problem with it.

For what's important to me, and me alone, I am a heavy procrastinator.

However, for what's expected of me for the most part I get it done pretty quickly... Except when I need to vacuum or clean the pit of moths (My gerbil's cage.)

But I could do a lot of things if I had money.

I'm pretty much like roke. Exspecialy about school work. if it's only my ass riding otn it, then it can wait. But if other people are involved then i usualy try to get it done early, or take the whole burden for myslef.

BUt i can do tremendous ammounts of work when i;m under the right pressure ... ie ... i have a 14 page essya due in 2 weeks ... i still haven't done any research ... *BAM* it's done ... a week late ... thus explaining my month and a half absence from the org a little while ago ...

I find that by procrastinating, your vids come out slower, but better...

With regards to homework and grades:
Yes, procrastination can bite you where the sun dont shine if you dont plan your time out right and end up staying up all night for several days in a row to finish a paer that wont write itself.
But it can also be a good thing. For one thing, the later you learn it, the later you forget it. So if youre only gonna read your textbook once before the test, its better to do it 15-20 minutes before than a week before the test. Also, as you find yourself in these last-minute situations more and more frequently, you develop learn how to work more efficiently and save time.
So here's my advice. plan ahead and figure out how much time your homework/studying will take and make sure you start working that amount of time before the deadline. In comparison to doing the actual work, planning takes almost no effort- you can do it while twiddling your thumbs- and it takes only a few seconds.
