Wendy Lee= Faye
Amanda Winn Lee= Rei

Anyways, I don't expect much from this dub it's hard enuff getting a good school girl voice. A whole class of them is another. I hope they do excel saga type ADV notes for all the weird cultural refs.

If they don't, I might have to stick with my Hks :P

WHOA!! Wendee Lee is somebody different. I think you both mean Amanda Winn Lee. Yes, Amanda did Eva and worked for ADV in the past. Wendee has a much larger resume of work and you hear her in just about everything. And yes, she did screw up Love Hina as the ADR director.

And for that she is a whore and must be perished to the bowels of hell. I so wanted a good love hina dub.

This annoys me. Azumanga is a great series, and a dub will do it a great disservice, for the cultural and vocal reasons mentioned earlier in the thread.

Why bother with a dub? It's not the sort of series that has a good chance of being relatively successful in the anime market, here in North America. No action, no fanservice, no deep, mystic shit, just a fun comedy series. The only ones interested in buying it are probably the ones who have seen it fansubbed, and will watch it with the original dialogue anyways.

So the distributor should skip the dub, do a good sub job, and release it faster.

Just my two cents.
I'm out...

Do they realease anime (comercially) that is undubbed? I haven't heard of anything like that here... still it would be a good idea in some cases.

Anyway as I've already said good dub, bad dub I don't care just give me the dvd's and they bloody better have the japanease soundtrack.

they do have some undubbed, and they just pump out a no features giant boxset type thing. I'd like to see the excel saga treatment, with cool features, easter eggs, and vid notes. Oh and a dub for my frens that are too lazy to read :P

*looks at Kthulhu's post*

Who cares if they dub it. You don't have to watch it dubbed, sure it would be nice if they did a good job that didn't make you embarassed to show it to other people, but still. You can just change the language and watch it however you want. So ADV's releasing it eh? I was wondering who had rights to it.

Hey, if it's ADV, maybe we'll get it over here... Very little of anyone else's stuff makes it over here, but Excel Saga, Hellsing and so on from them seems to be doing just fine. I love this series, and the dub track can be as bad as it wants; I just won't bother to listen to it.

While I'll admit I think the odds of it being a really good dub are probably fairly low (I just can't see them finding anyone who can do Chiyo-chan justice without them sounding completely squeeky trying to do a girl her age's voice, unless they actually get someone Chiyosuke's age to voice her...), I can't bring myself to see it as being wholly bad. I'll likely never listen to the dub track unless I get really bored. Having it on the discs may be something of a waste, but if it is done well and helps increase the series' sales, I'm all for it.

I think these days shows that are released purely subbed are few and far between. The only one that I can think of off the top of my head is AnimEigo's release of the Urusei Yatsura TV series (though they are test dubbing the first movie to guage the reaction and whether it's worth dubbing the rest. I hope it's not so they get released quicker  ).
