*echoes everybody who said "it's different for every person"*
I am a slow worker, in part because I get burned out and have to take breaks now and then.
But really, unless you're on a con deadline, it doesn't make much of a difference anyway.
My first vid took about six or seven hours solid, but then there are hardly any cuts in it. My average is six weeks to two months, not counting time to make a rough draft, if any. Which, I figured out, comes out to about 30-35 hours.
But basically it varies for everyone. Heck, it even depends on how much time a day you spend and how much you concentrate when you're working. Like anything else (what program to use, etc.) there's no answer that anyone else can give you that will make it easy, and you can't do it by copying anyone else. You just have to do whatever works for you.

All my vids are done quickly, with little pain and effort. The thing is, though, before I make my video, I watch the anime many, many times, and listen to the song, looped, while I watch. When I find the clips necessary, i write down the timeframes. After that, i then write out a script of what I want the video to convey, with the timeframes of the clips I want written in.
The video I'm working on now took me about three to four hours of editing per minute of song, and I work on it once a week, Satuday afternoon, for 12pm to 3pm.
My Cybernetic Rhapsody AMV took me about 14 hours to edit, mainly because the song was 7:15 long. (min/sec) and I did it non stop with lots of caffiene and no sleep. It came out damn good, except I went 'weak sister' and finished up the video in a rush, which left me a little disappointed ( ) and I actually ended up with a clip of useless footage that I will swear to god I deleted...
My End of Eva vid took 16 hours and I was on a combination of beer and Stacker 3's. I put a lot of effort into that one, where I utilized every technique I know in the making thereof, and I still fucked up. Oh, well. This time, at least, I'm doing it right, and taking time off in between minutes.

I think my average is 2 days, but I don't like to count days. A 2 day vid for me is a 32+ hr vid, compared to some who do 5-7 hrs per day. When I'm working on a vid, I sleep on the couch in front of my comp, eat as I look over my timeline, and pretty much have my eyes glued to the screen the entire time. But I don't count ripping - just the editing *in* the movie maker. Exporting tends to take a lot longer as well. ~_~
I think the longest I've spent on a vid was a little over a week. I barely slept, I wrote out plans and details as I was ripping the footage, as far as I remember the time for editing came down to about 10mins per 3-5 seconds (mostly because my movie maker kept crashing every time I tried to preview). But that vid had more sources and more changing scenes and timing issues than most of my story or action vids do, so it was the exception for me.
I've never timed myself for any other vid (I timed that one because I was moaning and complaining between each reset of my computer). I know I usually do a good 12 hr stretch first, then I crash for a few hours and it's generally half done when I wake up. So I'd say 30 hrs is okay for a slower simple vid (fewer effects, longer edits = fewer crashes).
It helps that I usually know *exactly* what scenes I want to use, and what beats I want to emphasize long before I start editing. And my sources are limited, so I know them by heart - once I focus on a song, the scenes come to mind immediately and it's just a matter of finding and ripping them. The actual editing depends more on the movie maker than on me.

Actually You could be really good at amv's and take upto a month or so , or less , its alot easier and makes it faster if you know the song / anime / software really good probably you'd be able to make it faste it just comes down to the issues of the person

Well I also said it depends on the nature of the video. Either one could be a factor.EX-Slacker wrote:Actually You could be really good at amv's and take upto a month or so , or less , its alot easier and makes it faster if you know the song / anime / software really good probably you'd be able to make it faste it just comes down to the issues of the person

Oh my, I knew I was slow but I didn't realise I was that slow. It took me 3 months to make my first vid from the original idea to uploading it here. Admittedly I had no idea what I was doing since it was my first but still
Well at least I'm getting a bit faster my last vid took about 2 months. It's finished now but I have to fix up my hosting.
Of course I didn't spend every minute of everyday on amv's probably only 4 or 6 hrs on average each day. Meh, what does it matter so long as there good engough for me.
