I thought voicing Excel wrecked her vocal cords, or am I thinking of somebody else?OmniStrata wrote: Some examples of fantasticular dubs... Besides, you can always watch the damn subs on the DVD, so please, what is the point in whining about this? I'll just be glad that I can finally buy the series.

You know what has an even better chance of happening? If ADV ad-libs it to the point of wtf? And it turns out to be a FANTASTIC dub...
The more you people complain, the more ADV has a slight chance of slapping around and making you all worship the dub...
Once again, I stand by the fact that without dubs, anime will NOT prosper in America. EVAR... NOT EVEN A LITTLE...

Ok, you mean to tell me that ALL THE PEOPLE you know loved subs right away? [damn, you must hang with all the right people all the time then...]kthulhu wrote:Lies.SarahtheBoring wrote:Blah, blah, blah... :p
If anybody who's NEVAR seen anime before is going to see it once, subs is usually NOT the way to go...

I don't know, everyone I've shown the Azu fansubs to didn't get it or like it.
I'm suggesting that it's really more of a niche title, and that dubbing it is a waste of time and resources when the people most likely to enjoy and buy it are the ones who probably, 9 times out of 10, won't watch it that way, except out of curiosity.

Maybe so, but there's also the matter that many companies at least want the possibility and/or chance to license titles for showing on TV, even if it's only on something like the Anime Network (which we apparently can now get here for like $7 a month... pity I don't think I'd have the time to watch it to make it worthwhile...)- and to do that, you pretty much need a dub of the show.kthulhu wrote:I'm suggesting that it's really more of a niche title, and that dubbing it is a waste of time and resources when the people most likely to enjoy and buy it are the ones who probably, 9 times out of 10, won't watch it that way, except out of curiosity.

I fully intend to pimp out AD to the people I know who aren't into anime. It's one of the most down-to-earth and accessible anime I know. It doesn't have people mutating or suddenly growing wings, people getting molested by tentacle demons, etc. etc.
There's a lot of Japanese culture references, but A) those can be explained and B) you can still enjoy the show without them.
Please, spare me the "the commoners just don't understand" speech. It's unbecoming.

LOL Kthulu yes this dub will suck but the Slayers dub is 1 billion times better than the sub. Sometimes subs are better sometimes dubs are better.
