Long or short ops?
After writing a 1600 words opinion without getting a reply I've asked myself...
Do you people like it short (100-200 words) to get a rough response what was good or what was bad, or do you appreciate it when the reviewer is nitpicky about every second? Or do you even don't look at the words and want to have good scores to get on the top 10%?

I personally love getting long ops. It means the person really looked at my video in detail (hopefully b/c they liked it). It also allows me to improve better since it's specific. I'm pretty sure almost all creators love getting those long ops. It shows you care.
As for myself, I write *very* long opinions which is why I haven't been writing them lately.
I go scene-by-scene with time stamps and what I liked, disliked and so on. They usually take me like 30 minutes to do ;_;.

hehe, I think ur talking about my review >_> I like long ones, but I also feel I would need to respond sorta long too. Esp. when they quote times, I gotta look up hehe :P
Also I feel like if I respond to one I should do them all @_@ Even though I would want to just respond to a few good ones. So I tend to respond to every single op I have at one time, and I haven't had time lately. I got like 60 total in the past month, but it looks like the con aftermath is over so I will get to it soon, promise ._.

Ditto on that one. It took me like 30 minutes to respond to all my ops for Glory of Love (38) and Evolution (31). Given I already did some in the past, but after Otakon...ugh.Nappy wrote:Also I feel like if I respond to one I should do them all @_@ Even though I would want to just respond to a few good ones. As long as they are descriptive and include constructive critisism I am pleased. Usually the longer ones do include more in depth info, but sometimes it's just rambling about the same thing.
I like any usefull opinion, but I like the long usefull ones even more so.
P.S. I am terrible and giving long descriptions, I prefer critiquing the "emotions" (music/video combination, choice of clips, mood of song vs mood of video, on tempo) of the video rather than each technical spot (though I don't mind getting both kinds )

I like to get (and give for that matter) my ops as long as i can without becoming repetitive or useless. I don't want a 1,000-page essay on why you think my video sux. Nor do I want a gratuitously long op claiming me the lord of all AMV. Make it descriptive, keep it productive, and most of all don't bitch about how much you don't like the particular song/anime. This in an opinion, but it's and opinion on the AMV in question, not a rant why said media sux. I like to know what is wrong and how to fix it. I even like constructive criticism like "This effect could have been better, here is what I would have done..." or "I really think in scene 8:02:11 the video could have gone without..... It distracted form the over all perspective."

The first op I ever did was terrible since then I looked at how some people did them. Now I write long ops (not nearly as long as some of dwchang's I've seen) so I like to receive long ops. I like to think people put the same amount of effort into opinions that I do. I spend about an half hour on opinions and generally only after I've watched the video a lot of times.
I have this little A5 notebook and every video I review gets at least one page of that notebook devoted to it. I do the whole time-indexed thing because it's easier than describing the clip that you are talking about. I do tend to go on a bit and I keep telling people that a lot of my points are my personal opinions and they shouldn't be offended by them. Plus I feel I have to describe what I treat each score as since so many people grade things differently especially "overall" and some people base their average around 5 and others at 7 (I think mine tends to be more 7 than anything else).
