hmmm never knew reverse blade was a real sword, well i'll be damned, first you can pound the crap out of them with a blint object then you can finish them off with the business end of it. :)
I have one. Well it's not technically mine but it's in my house.

It sickens me that people just want to have swords to look cool...

Do you even know what would happen if you got a modified longer katana blade?
Have you ever tried to unsheath it? Or reseath it?
If it's two centimeters too long, you almost cut your fingers off(or fear thet you're going to if you resheath the right way) because the blade is so freaking difficult ot get in the sheath.
And then, when you unsheath, if it's too long you tend to lean the saya against the wood and CRAACK... After a few times of that you have two halves a sheath.

And as for backwards swords...

Have fun cutting yourself while doing cottas or unsheathing(popping the tsuba out with your thumb will most likely draw blood everytime).

The very idea of a reverse blade sword = Ludicris.

One of the many reasons I don't like Kenshin.

.....

But then again, we're talking hypothetically, so I guess the reality of these matters don't really effet your decisions to look cool...=\

Although if you held the sword UPSIDE DOWN when unsheathing or resheathing, you would probably NOT cut yourself with a reversed sword.... :|

Pressing against the side of the tsuba would better, although personally I seem to think this could cause lateral stress against the attaching object.

In terms of sheathing and unsheathing, I am assuming you consider that you are wearing the saya. Traditionally, this is done blade side facing upwards, concave down. With the concaves switched, I don't exactly know how it would work... and true, an excessively long blade or curvature can cause some clearance issues.

As for cottas, please remember that (a) you have a long handle, use it... (b) the natural curvature of the blade is one of the major force distributive factors in the design so I guess that may be a problem.

still, i wouldn't want a little sword that has no real weight behind a swing.

Agreed.

After I'm gone forging my own hydrophobic blade, I'm probably just going to seal it in an argon or nitrogen box and keep it in my private "museum"... the one that I keep hidden away from my parents in the "comms closet". with around 5 years of unread junk faxes littering the floor I doubt they'd want to go in there.

Now where to find a method to heat AISI 1150 to 730C? Or was it 370C? Or was it Farenheit. I forgot.

Atleast you forge your own stuff.
Wish I could do that. I hear you can save money that way...

But hwo knows.
Maybe I should actually buy all the supplies at the yearly blade convention that comes around here... But I don't have any skills, so that's probably suck.
Not to mention I doubt you could buy the large sheets to fold it... Bleh

... And on the side:

No one could ever actually understand a sword and the resonsibility of having it unless you've used it before... Correctly.

A lot of people have joined my kendo/kenjutsu class and then quit weeks later because they couldn't do the things they saw kenshin do on TV.
And I'm talking about people ranging from 16 - 25.

Ridiculous.

And as for forging my own blades, here's an easy way:
