I look at Live Action adaptations this way. It's just another take on that given universe, much like a remix or an OAV. What makes a Japanese adaption even better (in my opinion) is that it adds the fantasy spirit of Tokusatsu to my favorite animated series... and that's always a good thing.

And for the most part, I'm pretty happy about both the Cutey Honey AND Sailor Moon live action shows.

Perfect example of how to do a live action anime:

City Hunter

Jackie Chan as Ryu and I'm pretty sure that a lot of the other characters are in it as well. (Never saw the anime, but I've wanted too).

You have to watch some Asian movies (non-kung fu) and see a couple of the shows to understand that they could pull it off. Check out Tokyo Shock's video catalog. I hear Zero Woman comes highly recomended.

I see live-actions in this way: is just a different way to tell the same story.
Take EVA for example, sure they are not gonna tell the whole story in a two-hour movie, but is a different way to look at it. Of course that the movie being made in USA it could suffer some changes like: Shinji saves George Bush or whatever...( I don't think that is so unlikely...)
But let's face it: movies about animations or comics aren't made for the people that already know them.

Altough the film and the animation tell the same story, the way they do it will always be very different.

...sorry about my english.

And I would have to agree with you about a Hellsing Live-action.

But Love Hina sounds a little bit strange to me... You can't make a boy to get kicked in the face and make it look funny so easily.

They'll throw in "sexual inuendos" and sarcastic jokes (mostly bad ones) in place of these.

I don't know. Let's get a crack team together, make a home-brew Love Hina movie with Fyrt as director, and see what happens. My assumption - it's gonna hurt like Jackass, but at least it'll be sexy.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Ean wrote:I really liked the GTO live action drama (I'd give it an A+)... there's 12 episodes, 1 movie and 1 "special". You're right, it's different from the manga and anime but I think it gives you a different perspective on things... but that's just me. You should watch the whole thing, or a least a few episodes of it, before you "disapprove of it greatly"... give it a chance and you might actually come to like it.
Yoroshiku! Takeshi Sorimachi kicks ass!
The movie is worse than the series, though and the special is worse than the movie. And of course you should see the anime before watching the drama.
You're Under Arrest Live Action is pretty funny too.

As a general rule...

Anything that started as a cartoon sucks when it goes live-action. Video game movies are even worse.
