Those are all good suggestions, but I have a few more:
Spirited Away
Contained in this movie is commentary on the japanese pleasure industry. I mean, Chihiro is hired as a bath attendant who bathes dirty spirits. And the bath house she works in is rather gaudy, like many pleasure quarters.
Fruits Basket
Not only is this shoujo masterpiece wonderfully funny and romantic, it really is about social acceptance and dealing with our own personal "curses".
Rurouni Kenshin
Kenshin is an ex-assasin who left his master to become a wandering ronin and gave up his vow of killing. Going against pretty much the core values of the Samurai code, Bushido. There's a lot of the "meaning of life" questions in here, as well as a wonderful look at the early Meiji era of Japan.

This is for fun. You have two different worlds at war, one is all-male and one is all-female. I found is fascinating how these worlds of seperate genders were depicted. Each had it's strengths and downfalls. And when putting the genders together again on one ship, well, you get a fresh outlook on the male/female dynamic.

Reality is for people who lack imagination.

Now and than here and there. Though, due to your user name, SAILOR MOON DO SAILOR MOON!! (uncut mind you). if you mean 'writing' as in the direction it'd be cool if you can do an amv. I suggest Shonen Dizzy Cow's Akira under my Skin or Otaku Vengeances One day more.... or the Love Hina 'She hates me' one lol.... if you have to do a song do 'she hates me' .Moonlight Soldier wrote:Hmmm...ya for my Writer's Class, I have to keep this diary where I analyze different forms of writing and the like. Can you guys think of a good storyline from an anime (preferably one that I can find mind you), or manga that I could tear apart (in a happy way) to show it's finer points/strengths/weaknesses etc etc...
I've just done one for Magic Knight Rayearth Part 1 the manga...
I AM NOT GOING TO DO EVA BECAUSE I'D SERIOUSLY CONFUSE MY TEACHER AND NOT EVEN I UNDERSTAND ALL THE GOINGS ON IN IT....though it would be a good one as well.
Any thoughts peoples?

Ya it's just to decide though. I mean, I have to try out different written peices, such as songs, poetry and the like, (Knowname for your information, I'm probably going to analyze the english translation of Moonlight Densetsu, being that it's full of litterary devices) it's just a pain deciding what to do...because first of all I need to introduce the plot, the characters then comment review in a way that even if my teacher doesn't know about the series (which she won't) she'd be able to understand what I'm talking about. Like MKR was fairly easy, it only took me about 3 (lil diary pages) to describe the plot and such. Then I analyzed it for about 5 pages.
This isn't a formal paper or anything.

I was gonna say, if you're trying to get out of reading a book with this then . (If that's the case, you could stick to manga and make a case for it.)
Revolutionary Girl Utena is a rambling plot essay waiting to happen (if I'd been in college when I saw it, I probably would've done one on it in my gender-roles-and-aesthetics colloquium...but...too late. )
Anyway, you're probably best off looking for something dramatic, since action and comedy often lose a lot when they're summarized. Apart from SKU, the Miyazaki suggestions are also good, I think. 8)
