The AWA9 Documentary by MindWarp!

Post by Machine » Sat Sep 20, 2003 12:46 am

Hey everyone,

I'll try and explain this as best I can. I knwo its rather short notice but some things came and I decided on something the other day. Let me break it down real quick.

I work at the UT Austin TV station known as KVR-TV. One of their TV shows has to deal with Anime and Videogames. When I told them I was heading to Atlanta for AWA, they ask me if I could get some footage of the Con for the TV show, maybe some interviews with AMV creators, Cosplayers, and Voice Actors. It sounded like not to bad of an idea. Then I thought about it again.

Why just kill 1 bird with 1 stone when you can kill 3 with 1 stone?

Since the KVR TV station will be lending me some quality equipement this time (pd-150 camera, boom mic, dynamic mic, etc), I figure I have some fun with this and heres how its going to play out:

KVR TV Coverage of AWA9:
Here's how this will run, Chris and I will be going around the CON gettin interviews from various people but mostly from the Voice Actors and Head peeps of AWA. Maybe some random footage of people walkin around, dealer room, and any other major important events. Don't worry, I won't be buggin anyone who doesn't want to be in it :D. About a 15 segment will be made later in case we decide to do a quick story on AWA and the experience on KVR. It may or may not air (college TV mostly) but the producers of the show told me to shoot some stuff just in case.:D

NES Project 2003 Doc:
I'll have the equipment out before, during and after the premiere of the NES Project. It's mostly just to get feedback about how you think it went. I'll also try and get interviews with most of the NES creator team if most of them would like to be on camera. This is a doc that we will make available later on either with Red Wolf's help (CD Distro) or we hand them out with actual NES DVDs in the future. We will think of something later on, but first thing is first, lets shoot the footage.

AMV Creator Doc:
This doc will probably the hardest one to shoot. I know things haven't exactly played out to well in the past with the whole Documentary situation. I'm to blame for it mostly. But I would like to make it up to the AMV community there at AWA but I won't be able to do it alone. Just like the last 2 other things, I would also like interview every AMV creator there if at all possible. Chris and I have come up with a series of questions to ask the AMV creators such as, who inspired you? and what is your favorite AMV that you have made or by someone else...etc. No making anyone look bad at all for this documentary. If anything, I want to make EVERYONE look GOOD! I'm going to be editing together a little something which will hopefully encourage other AMV creators (if we upload to the internet) to come to AWA. Big Promo Action. Also, if you win something at AWA Expo or Pro or Masters and you want to be on the Doc just to promote or gloat to others about the prize, then go for it, I'll just click and shoot your victory speech. However, if you don't want to be interviewed for any reason at all, then don't worry about it. I'm not going to stick the camera in anyone's face. I'll walk around with the camera OFF most of the time so if you want to be interviewed, let me know, I'll turn ON the camera and we will start the interview.

Again, I want to make up for everything and give the Doc series a good rap again and I figure this is my shot to do it.

The only Doc(s) that may be uploaded to the internet are maybe the NES Project Doc and/or the AMV Creator Doc.

What does everyone think?
Post your ideas or comments here and I'll read them so I know what to do or not to do.

PS, the Video Camera will not be taken into anyone's room or party under any circumstances. What happens at AWA stays at AWA. So pretty much what I'm saying is, don't worry, no one will be caught on film either drunk, stoned, rolling, etc etc. That's what photo cameras are for =). Unless you are a hawt group of fan girls who want to do anything for the camera. Hahhaha jk.

Image I like the idea. I think it's a good promotional idea, and a good shot for anyone who wants to get on camera. Also, you said that you will respect the wishes of those who do not want to be on camera. I think, if anything, this was one of the biggest problems. That and crude jokes. But enough about the past. Good cause, good plan.

While I'd still prefer to not be on camera, I'm glad you're starting to make your way into professional work. :)
