Best Free Video Editing Software

I know this question might have been asked before, but I was just wondering what the best free video editing software out there is. The one I'm using is way outta date and is really hard to put in special effects and such, and I really need a new one, but I dont have any cash. So, I could really use some good recomendations from you guys for good, free downloadable video editing software (if there is any).

I'd suggest something, but I don't think you'd want to use it.
