Codec Troubles

Post by Runestar » Fri Jun 28, 2002 8:27 pm

Okay, time to see if anyone in AnimeLand can give me a hand.

I have two videos that I can hear audio but can not see any video (except the vizualizations stuff Media Players has).

One is Inu Yasha to 'Possession', made by Ripple Effect Studios. I haven't been able to play it for a while. When I try to get detailed information I don't get any about any codecs or video formats.

The other one is Shadow Skill to 'Ready To Go', made by Maboroshi Studios. Since this is one of the older videos it uses an older codec for video. Indeo Video 5 to be exact. When I switched to XP it no longer worked, thought my roomie who runs 98SE can play it fine. Where can I get an Indeo 5 codec?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

I believe the Nimo Codec pack will have everything you need, but I'm not sure where you can get it or if it's even free.

Guess #1: Get divx 3.11alpha... I think <a href="http://www.divx-digest.com/software/div ... html">Divx Digest</a> has a link to this file. If that doesn't work maybe they are in divx4/5...

As for Joe's video that's in Indeo 5.x, you can get the codec at <a href="http://indeo.ligos.com/pi=103.php?&n1=p ... gos.com</a>

Hope that works out for you, enjoy the videos!

I went to http://www.risingresearch.com/en/divx/ and found a little program to get the 1st video out of a codec called Angel Potion. Works like a charm.

I went to Ligos and DLed the codec. Then I installed it. Even rebooted the machine just to be on the safe side. It still didn't work. So I uninstalled and redownloaded the codec and installed it over again. Reboot. Still get the visuals from media player.

Am I missing a step someplace? Am I DLing a bad file? Does XP just not like this codec? I'm out of ideas.

AngelPotion is crap. Uninstall it right now.

Go grab DivX5 from www.Divx.com - that will playback any DivX3/4/5 file that you can get. It's the simplest way.

If the video isn't saved in Quicktime Sorenson, MPEG1, MPEG2, Divx 3/4/5, or Indeo then I don't even bother grabbing the weird obscure codec for it. I can't view WMV files either since that would require an upgrade of Windows Media Playe 6, something I don't want to do after having seen Windows Media Player 7.

Actually Omar I can play WMV files fine with WiMP 6.4 - the default Win2K install of it.

At least all the WMV files I've tried have played back fine.

The safest thing to do is download DIVX and real player one, real player gets you all the codecs that your heart desires, except love , you'll have to find that yourself

Ta hell will RealPlayer get you illegal codecs... Well okay, actually since DivX.com = legit then maybe it would get that one.

Indeo = lame codec and freely available. No need to get it from grokster.
SpAnDA = not lame and needs to draw misato pictures.
