Well, you make the erroneous assumption that these people understand the concepts of books, and in particular movies based off books.
Actually, thinking about it, the ending spot is bad mainly because I'm concerned about what that'll do to the third movie. There's still a lot they need to cover at the end of the second book, not to mention the third one...

I'm bored and you're dumb. A match made in heaven.

Actually, the stuff in the Shire was some of my favorite stuff in the whole--Trilogy? Saga? What would you call The Lord of the Rings anyway? There's a lot of stuff in the war that can probably be cut out though (the coronation thing can be shortened, for example).

The forest itself was okay. I'm wondering what they'll do about Merry and Pippin's daggers. But yeah--the whole Tom Bombadil undoubtedly says something about Tolkien's beliefs about the nature of man and likely harks back to some great epic tradition. Which makes it ironic that Tom Bombadil bores me, as I'm into comparative literature... But yeah, that scene was a safe cut.El Banana wrote:I'm glad they cut off the scene in the first book where they get sort of lost in the forest right as they are leaving the shire.
I kept rereading the scene because my mind would drift, and I'd forget where I was on the page.
