AMVs to Sakura-Con 2004

Post by TaranT » Sun Oct 05, 2003 2:23 am

On the subject of "why you should enter the Sakura-Con AMV contest"...

This is a post from the Sakura-Con message board:
Shadow Kisa wrote:I LOVE KUSOYARO PRODUCTIONS!!!! He did Dreams Come True by SES to Fushigi Yuugi (winner at Sakura-Con 2000 - ed.) and "Sappy Self Indulgence"....I am this guy's ultimate fan girl! (In the Northwest anyway.)

I also enjoy Doki Doki Productions, VicBond007, and Aluminum Studios videos.

I also know the girl from Otaku Productions, Hakura, but I haven't talked to her in a long time and I don't think she is going to Sakura Con in 2004.

I just love AMVs! I SO want to be an AMVer's groupie. But all the REALLY good AMVers live on the east coast. And I live up here in the northwest. Boo hoo!

Last year CArnesen accepted DVD submissions, perhaps this year online will be possible. Hard to say.

That post TaranT linked was the best motivation for me to make sure I have a kickass vid ready for SK2k4 yet. 8)

Question: being new to cons in general, what is Sakura-Cons main atraction? like AWA is big for AMVs and they have had a rather large dealers room each time i have been. the only cons i have gone to are AWA 8-9, Jacon 2002, and MetroCon 2003, so im a bit of a con newb. i hear alot about this one, but taking a trip all the way across the country for anime is a bit drastic, but i dont care about that ^_^

i wanted to get more into the anime fandom, and what better way then cons eh? i guess what im asking is has anyone been dissapointed by Sakura-Con?

Really, SakuraCon's biggest draw is simply that it's in the Northwest. AFAIK, it's the only con you can drive to in a single day if you live north of California and west of Salt Lake city.

It's nice and all, but lacks the huge VAT/AMV draw of AWA.

It's decently sized, a little larger than AWA, but sufficiently smaller than something like AX to be more fun, while still drawing a decent number of guests of honor from Japan, when they don't stay home because of war, like last year. :?

The AMV situation seems to be improving with Chris Arnesen in charge of it, and I'd love to see it become a sort of "AWA west" in the future.

They also have a very nice charity auction with great stuff, but that's beside the point if it takes most of your spare cash just to get there.

Basically, it's just a generally decent all-around anime con, without any particular reason to make a huge trip all the way across the country unless you have an excess of spare money and time just waiting to be used.

well, it wasent but an hour or so after i posted, that i was informed that its like only a few weeks from JACON, and thats close enough for me to drive to, so leme think here, spend all my money on getting TO the con, or spend at all AT the con.......

^_^ thanks for the feedback tho

I certainly want to be able to start accepting submissions (both mail and online) by November 1st. <keeps fingers crossed>

Thanks for your words of encouragement. I've recently made plans to purchase an editing system that I will be using for the Sakura-Con AMV program and I've already started working on scripts and storyboards for the production.

I'm taking a cue from programs like the Oscar Awards and MTV Music Video Awards into the design of the Sakura-Con AMV program. It's expected to be quite elaborate, but very impressive.

I hope to also take the elements that I will be using on the AMV contest and using them in the Opening Ceremonies with the GOH Introductions, Staff Introductions, etc.

If you need hardware, for a backup/failsafe machine, I'll be bringing a Transportable rig down to the con with me. Plus M:I:3 should be ready for a showing by that point, if you want a repeat showstopper ala this year.
