Why does everyone love Evanescence AMV's so much?

Post by Pyle » Wed Oct 08, 2003 9:29 pm

Seriously, why are they so popular. Hundreds of videos, all with the exact same song (bring me to life, aka, wake me up inside), seem to be the most popular :? :?: Is there something I'm missing here?

My guesses:

1) Evanescence is horrendously popular these days
2) They make angsty songs, and people think angsty = good video automatically

I don't dislike Evanescence, but I am getting a bit sick of hearing about them. *shrug*

It's a good song. The only problem is that you downloaded one too many amvs and came upon the crap file.

It is a good song, but Sarah's right, it can only be heard so many times.

I've used an Evanescence song in one of my vids but at least it isn't "Bring Me to Life".

It seemed like a good idea at the time..

I don't really have a problem with it. I guess I'm tired of seeing the "this song fit perfectly to this anime" etc in every video description.

How "on-the-spot" could Evanescence possibly be.

I was going to start working on an Evanescence amv this weekend. "Taking Over Me" using footage from Voices from a Distant Star. It seems like a decent matchup, unless someone can suggest a different song.

I used to like the song, but I don't anymore. And it isn't seeing bad vids that killed it - even the good (well edited) vids irritate me when I watch them. It's the take on the lyrics - people throw romantic scenes, unhappy scenes, and more romantic scenes and it's an automatic perfect fit. But it's not. Of all the vids I've seen for this song, there's only one or two that I thought actually matched the lyrics. A lot were well edited, but the song wasn't important - they were just videos about pairings.

I think my problem is the source of the song, that old neverending story reference. I don't see that in any of the videos using it, most don't have any sort of angst that even comes close to that sort of 'wake me up' theme. It's all just 'pick a pairing, show some angst and have someone 'rescuing' the other with some romantic/sappy/happy scenes.' I can only think of one or two that even had the character alone or dead inside (needing to be woken and brought to life). It's like any seemingly angsty scene fits, and I don't think it does.

And worst of all, who says the song has to be romance to begin with? As much as I hate the song now, I'm still on the look out for the vid that actually uses a theme of someone reaching out to rescue another person in a way that doesn't necessarily involve romance and an angsty love triangle. Every vid (except the odd action vid) has the same theme - and none of them have the theme I see when I hear this song. So it's a personal dislike.

I keep watching them hoping for that 'one' and with each vid I watch, I hate the song even more. Not much I can do about that. :?

Yeah, but at least they have a *lot* of songs. Not as much repeating the exact same song 1000 times - just the band. I'd rather watch two dozen lp vids than two dozen 'bring me to life' vids. >.<
