RIAA attack the org?
It seems scary to me to think that we could lose the org. Many complete songs are used in AMVs here, and as far as I understand it this is copywright infingement. Does this mean that, theoretically, the RIAA could shut down the AMV ORG?
Its a scary thought.... I brought it up to further the point that perhaps copywright laws are a bit too strict/outdated.
What do you think?
I know I couldn't live without the org

Oh my god you're right. They don't have better things to do. Maybe next they'll go after people who record a cassette tape for their freinds! . Seriously though, I'm sure they have better things to do than go after a relatively small community of anime fans who also happen to be fans of music, and fans of combining the two. Not like they can sue you people anyway, they wouldn't get any money cause anime fans are notoriously poor (anime being more expensive than heroin and just as addicting).

Sorry about wrong forum.
Back to the RIAA though, whether the RIAA has bigger fish to fry or not, it's still rediculous that they could take legal action again the org or an org amv creator.
It just seems to me that perhaps we should look at this fact as an eye opener to the importance of the issue.
Afterall, I think it's safe to assume that most people here are very immersed in the internet. And file-sharing and copywrighted intellectual material as well as media material is intertwined into most areas of the internet.
What would happen if the internet became much more restricted and less free than it is now?
I'm just worried about AMV org, and the future of the entire internet as we know it....
(Hah, it sounds like I'm talking about the end of the world, didn't mean to sound that serious )

It's called "the law" (c.f. the DMCA which people idly sat around and watch get passed 99-0 in congress)DanManXYZ wrote:Back to the RIAA though, whether the RIAA has bigger fish to fry or not, it's still rediculous that they could take legal action again the org or an org amv creator.

Well, I heard on the radio about a guy who's basically poor, but the RIAA is suing him for anywhere between $2000 - $10000. That's also with a plea for guilty. $2000 wouldn't be too bad, but many people really can't afford the cost of CDs and such. I mean he said he had around 4000 mp3s or so. Around 15 songs per CD, it'd be around 267 CDs. At a cost of $20 per CD it's at least $5340. It seems very outrageous that they'd charge him $10000 for when at the most he'd only have to pay $5000. He could've actually only payed $2000, because it's very legal to buy used music CDs.
I'm so sorry for all of the numbers.
But to the point, it's unlikely that the RIAA will attack us, because many of us use the official CDs for our AMVs (well, if we don't we try not to say). If they'd be after anyone from this website, it'd be the people who extract the audio tracks from the AMVs and then use those as a profit making system. The RIAA is basically after the people with HUGE mp3 collections that fileshare them and the people who sell burned CDs for below production price, although they aren't doing much to control the latter.
