The real argument you're trying to make is that anime is a little more adult than "Alvin and the Chipmunks", or "The Smurfs". To do this, you ought to point out the few American animated films aimed at adults ("Heavy Metal" is really the only one I've heard of, but there have to be a few others out there).
That is what im trying to say, I did point out a few Animated TV Series that are aimed toward the older generation. Such as

1). Family Guy
2). The Simpsons
3). Beavis and Butthead
4). Futurama
5). South Park

The fact that These are aimed towards adults is what sets it apart from Cartoons. I been saying that.

However, they are still cartoon shows.

Spot the oxymoron :P
What are you talking about? That's about as interesting as it can get without ninjas and lasers.

I dunno, in my mind Anime and cartoons are totally different, cartoons were made for kids, have virtually no story line, and generally dont attact as big as a population as Anime. Where as anime is pretty much the opposite.
Your logic fucken sucks ass. No plot, no storyline, and it doesn't attract like Anime does? Are you out of your fucken mind.

Would you put Family Guy in the same category as Totally Spies? What about Batman? Probably not. Cartoon is a drawing. Anime is a drawing. Just because they focus on another way of grabbing the audience, and are probably made for a more specific audience in mind (and a lot of that does happen even in the states, examples above) doesn't mean they're oh so different. Rawr.
or Nurse Nanako in the same category as Grave of the Fireflys??? YES!!

Dear god I have said this 1000 times anime is the french word for animation. A cartoon is moving pictures therefore the smurfs are anime and anime are cartoons so please give it a rest! We are all fans of Japanimation here but remember that alot of the art in anime now is done in korea look at the endings.

I remember a few years back, the Sci-Fi channel and USA constantly ran these phone order commercials for "Akira", and these other animes. They basically advertised them with such slogans as "it makes Blade Runner look like Disneyworld". While these commercials really cut down on the philosophical side of anime, it got the point across it was not meant for kids.

Just give them a VHS copy of Akira (you don't want to risk losing a good quality DVD version to a bunch of uneducated swines), and see what they think. Hopefully, they'll be smart enough to figure out the basics. I remember lending a VHS copy of "Mad Max" to some ditzy Christian girl. It took her the whole damn movie to guess the film was made in a different country (because everyone was driving on the wrong side of the road, but she didn't notice all the cars were right-side drive).
care to count how many ANIMES are truly geared towards those who are older than 13?? You'll only need one hand I'd bet....

Yet another thing people don't understand. Not everyone in japan loves their style of animation. It's mostly kids that watch the show, so if you're trying to act superior, go die because you aren't. Most japanese adult-types I know don't care for anime.

I belive in Japan, by the time people reach their later teens, they've seen enough anime to get them either entirely disinterested in it or just treat it as nothing out of the ordinary (like sitcoms on TV here). Only a few of the real otaku are nuts enough to treat it as some culture God.

At least, that's what my impression is.

But then, most of us here are not in Japan, so what difference does that make?
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
