Hiya, back again!
I just got my DVD of Grave of the Fireflies from Amazon (Germany). I saw it once on television like 8 years ago when I was like 13, but it hasn't lost its traumatizing theme.
Well enough, I have a few questions because I believe the version I have is very much censored, and I can't remember exactly when I saw it the first time. And my version is 85 min long, whereas IMDB.com lists it as having 93 minutes.
- Do you ever see the nuclear bomb falling and the explosion thereafter?
- The red "places" the kids got on their bodies, are they from the nuclear fallout, or "just" from starvation? Because in the german version it looks like its "only" from starvation, because you never actually see the A-Bomb dropping.
That's about all. I recon the first time I saw this masterpiece that I saw the nuclear bomb dropping, but when was it? At the very beginning or in the end of the move?
Help would be very appreciated, because if my version is censored I will buy the one from Amazon.com in hope of getting an uncensored one.
BTW the german version is rated for kids above 6 years! WTF?! Although I think it is censored you see dead bodies and all the gore...
Peace out,

Yah. I just read the synopsis on nausicaa.net and got it all. So it isn't Hiroshima like I thought, but Kobe in 1945. When I first saw the movie at the age of 13 I thought that it's all about the A-Bomb and the fallout after it.
But this time I really got it. And I am happy that I don't got a completely new-written and censored version (I thought that they cut out the A-Bomb somehow).
Peace out,
