I guess I'm in the minority, but I was pretty disappointed by it. No not by the action, but by the lack of a good ending and the laughable character development.

If your theater was like mine, everyone was laughing and heckling during *any* of the serious moments in the film between Neo and *anyone*. His acting was horrendous and I don't know anyone who actually gave two shits about what happened to any of the characters. Hell I had more empathy for the kid and the captain. And no I haven't spoiled anything yet.

As for the ending, I think they had the potential for *so* much more and pussed out. The 2nd movie implied so many great questions and things that could be done. Sure it's "philosophical" and "Deep," but I"m not the one who implied that's where the movie was going. Therefore, like any human being, I had expectations that they would go down this route and alas, they did not. It was all in the 2nd movie for no reason whatsoever other then to use 10 cent SAT words.

At the same time, don't get me wrong, I did enjoy it (yes you can enjoy something while still disappointed). The dock fight alone was worth the price of admission. I was just disappointed with the ending and direction the third film went.

Not exactly, the things stated are fairly simple things within philosophy, but I was impressed a "mere" action film would even touch upon it and then was later disappointed they didn't further explore it...

Watched it yesterday on the IMAX. Great Action scenes, though there didn't seem to be much of a plot that required any kind of deep thinking whatsoever. I actually liked how it focused in on Zion more than the actual Matrix, it gave it more suspense.

my reaction to the movie was similar to dwchang's. the first and second were enjoyable because they really pushed philosophical questions up to the audience. so i was expecting the same for the third. but the third really didn't do much other than end it and explain everything (although that's always nice).
spoiler wrote:the quality of the dialogue really seemed to drop in this one though. that was another thing i didn't like. agent smith's acting was what really killed it. he was really good in the first two, but in the third i just lost pretty much all my respect for him. link did an uninspiring job again.

the dock battle scene was attractive, but it was basically the formula that gave the twins towers its success: evil enemies send hordes of cg animated minions, good guys try to hold off a barrier against heavy odds using ranged weapons. result: good guys get to snipe off lots of bad guys before they get killed.

as for the ending, although it didn't bring up new philosophical questions, it did put the whole movie in a new perspective by explaining the roles of the oracle, the architect, neo and smith. religious allegories could easily be drawn.

altogether, it was alright, but my least favorite of the three.
