If your media player is popping up when you try to download, that means it's streaming the video. Go to your media player settings (options/configurations/etc) and see if it is set to stream video - just uncheck the boxes.
It doesn't sound like there's anything wrong with the videos - it sounds like your player settings are just streaming - you can disable that option. If you think it's the video itself, ask someone else to download it for you. I'd offer, but I'm on dial-up and don't really want to sit that long. ^_^;;
