DVD Burner Question(s)
Well I'm going to be buying a new comp soon. So I've also been looking around at DVD burners. One emachines system that caught my eye had a DVD rewritable drive and CD re-writable drive in one. I'm just wondering if this thing will probablly be a piece of junk.
And if it is, could you mention any brands you know work well, or ones that don't work well and that I should avoid.
One more thing, I noticed that prices vary on some due to them including software. Are these programas necessary to actually burn with? Or do they just make it easier.
*Note: My primary use for this will be getting rips from my anime disks to use in my future AMVs.

But a burner's never a bad plan for, you know, burning CDs/DVDs.J-0080 wrote:All I need is a regular DVD player, wow thanks Jon, you just saved me some cash.

Beg to differ, I've been running off one for a year and some-odd months now, saved me hundreds compared to the big-name-brands, no problems, still runs fine. Sure, I only got integrated sound and video, but who cares as long as they work?jonmartensen wrote:1) E-machines are not a good purchase

Re: DVD Burner Question(s)
Yes, you will need special software to burn discs, although Windows Media Player claims to burn CDs (not DVDs) if set up properly. If you get the DVD writer already installed in the system, some brand of this type of software should be included.J-0080 wrote:...One more thing, I noticed that prices vary on some due to them including software. I recently got a Optorite DD0201 and it has worked well so far. It can burn -+R at 4x (the only media I have had so far was 2x, so I haven't tried 4x yet) and can write CD's at 24x. It also has a feature called HD-BURN which allows 1.4GB of data on regular CD-R's (only readable in drives that can read HD-BURNed media). It also has an 8MB buffer.
