Again, tossing the one vote for 0080: War In The Pocket
Also some other candidates:
-Certain parts of Mobile Suit Gundam (the ep 'Winds of War' and the Garma arc were both on the depressing side, as was the Miharu arc)
-Cowboy Bebop has some moments (not ep 26 really though...that didn't feel sad so much as inevitable...24 on the other hand...)
and Dunbine had a few sad points near the end (the saddest, ironically enough, going to the main character's rival, Todd Guiness...wound up feeling sorrier for him in this scene than I ever did for Shou)
kura: You ARE aware that's not the ending, right? The manga goes on past that and they've apparently (finally) begun producing a second season of the anime

A second season? Are you certain? I spend quite a bit of time in the Berserk scene, and I havn't heard anything about that. Well, except some Italian fansite claiming they had information. But that's like, old...I think so at least.Heero_Yuy84 wrote:kura: You ARE aware that's not the ending, right? Anyway, to be on topic, I think the only two animes to ever make my feel any kind of sadness are Trigun and Berserk. Well, Grave of the Fireflies kinda got to me, but it was more like horror than sadness.

Throw my vote in with Gundam War in the Pocket.
Also, the Escaflowne Movie, when Van is on the cliff with Hitomi, and all of a sudden the music stops, and you know without watching that....
Bebop was sad at parts, but as was already mentioned, the end was more of a release for Spike, and he could rejoin Julia.
More tears? How about Final Fantasy TSW? It wasn't exactly an anime, but it is as close as you can get.
