From what I read all over the 'net and whatnot, they are NOT making a direct sequel to FF7. That would just be sacreligious to a lot of people. The buzz I've been getting is that they are going to remake FF7 for the PS2, adding some tweaks here and there..you know how Square Enix likes to tinker with everything. They almost remind me of George Lucas. But anyway, along with that remake, they might include the DVD of Advent Children.
Then again..these are just rumors, so nobody knows for sure. Though I have seen a release date for AC at 7/10/2004. Go figure.

I think that FF7 and Lunar ended in similar ways, being that a very strong magical and transformed villian was vanquished, and the world was saved in such a manner that it didnt appear it would be endanger again any time soon.Alex_Dragon wrote:Lunar:SSS was left open to a sequal and that sequal was made not very long after the original.Plus the endings to FF7 and Lunar:SSS are completely different.Making a sequal to FF7 is a bad idea,Period. If they were to do that most likely the story would suck royaly just like FF10's story sucked.
Lunar really wasn't made for a sequel. Lunar II takes place several hundred years after lunar:sss and really doesnt involve any of the characters from the first game, they are just briefly mentioned, much like BoF II vs BoF.
Anyway, back to the Lunar vs. FF7 argument. If what you are trying to say is that there is no room after FF7 for a sequel storyline wise, I would have to strongly agree. We'll have to see Advent Children to see if the 1 hour movie provides enough fresh storyline material to warrant an additional game.
I don't know if any of you have played the only FF sequel: FF10-2, which was released within the last week stateside. As a moderate fan of FF10, a game which seems to be loved the most by people less familiar with the series, I didn't buy 10-2, I just rented it. The storyline is bad or non-existent (its charlies angels in a final fantasy game), however the gameplay is amazingly complex and stategic (and difficult). The combat system is incredibly fluid, characters and enemies attack simultaneously, spells and attacks can be timed to occur at the same time for extra damage. You can stun enemies and do extra damage if you hit them just before they hit you, and characters/enemies will move around the battlefield, which matters because getting hit/hitting something from behind does double damage. Add in the fact that the game runs off of a Job class system that hasn't been seen since January of 1998 (FFT). Its, in my opinion, the most innovative game in the series in several ways, and even if most people hate it (which is easily concievable if you've played it), it leaves a lot of hope for future FF sequels.
Check my very first post in this thread; there is a link there to the FF7:AC trailer. It is a must see.Pie Row Maniac wrote:I find it funny that people are saying that the movie will ruin FFVII, despite not one soul on here has seen it yet.
