You've just bitten a bullet!

In saying that God has the freedom and power to do that which is logically impossible (like creating square circles), you are saying that any discussion of God and ultimate reality cannot be constrained by basic principles of rationality. This would seem to make rational discourse about God impossible. If rational discourse about God is impossible, there is nothing rational we can say about God and nothing rational we can say to support our belief or disbelief in God. To reject rational constraints on religious discourse in this fashion requires accepting that religious convictions, including your religious convictions, are beyond any debate or rational discussion. This is to bite a bullet.
That's crap. The question was "If god exists, would she have the power to make circles square and 1+1=72". According to my logic, that statement is totally relative, the way in which "god" manifests something and the way in which we classify it are totally relative. So in essence, the question was nonsense.

Because the West is so retarded that there's nothing else. I hate how everyone goes around in these religious discussions assuming everybody is defining god in the same way, usually the traditional christian anthropomorphized father. I got zero hits on that test and one bullet, probably because I went through the loops to interpret the statements about 'god' according to my best understanding of it, not the traditional view they seemed to be using.

I don't see how, it's possible for one to have independent beliefs distinct of organized religion and still consider it their religion. It's then just a personal religion, which is really what is more important than it's counterpart. Finding one's own meaning for existence is far greater than following someone else's.
SSJVegita0609 wrote:Exactly, I have no religion. That's all I was saying, I wasn't proclaiming myself to have my own religion, I simply have none.
I find that in the process of studying religion, I've become kind of disassociated with any particular belief. I figure some day, after I'm done learning, and after much contemplation, I'll come upon a final solid truth to live by.

So far as far as I see it it kind of branches off in this way,

Code: Select all

                     Truth
                       /\
                     / \
                   / \
                 / \
               / \
          Religion \
             /\ \
           / \ \
         / \ \
       / \ \
    Western Eastern Atheism
Now admittedly those are generalizations, but for my purpose they hold up. It's hard to categorize some of this stuff, just cause it's so disorganized. Atheism implies that, strictly phenomenalistic science. Truth is only that which can be proven true directly or indirectly. Religion (any kind) is a creation of the mind. Western religion implies the great monotheistic religions for the most part, and the dogmas therein where a god seperate from the universe created it and it's contents, and adherence to science or other forms of religion are incorrect and result in eventual destruction or otherwise punishment. Eastern religion implies a lot of things IMO, mostly the philosophy and/or mysticism religions of the Buddhists, Hindus, Platonists, Gnostics, Kabbalists, Theosophists, Occultists, and Pantheists to name a few off the top of my head. From all I've observed (which isn't nearly enough) Religion>Eastern seems the most feasible, but there is no outstanding evidence against Atheism, and despite it's apparent flaws Western religion has to be given a spot considering it's claims that reguard of the alternatives leads to eternal damnation. As said, some day, when I'm content with my studies, I'll evaluate all fully and come to a conclusion. Until then I've got more to do :P

Pop quiz, what does the Bible say happen to people when they die?
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

Answer: more than one answer and is contradictory.

Yes, but those people are kind of short on ritual acts, and they tend not to ordain themselves as priests or whatever. They are people who do stuff like that, but they tend to be ritual occultists, and a surprising number of those are agnostics/atheists/pantheists. Religion = re (again) + ligio (from Latin, meaning to link, to tie), i.e. religion is linking back, which can only be a community act. Personal religion = deism, which is a form of philosophy. On the other hand, a state can be religious even if there is no worship of a god or subscription to a belief in the "supernatural" (e.g. The Soviet Union).

That's almost exactly the way it is with me.

After doing some studying on the concept, I consider myself to be a Buddhist Catholic hybrid, if you will.

I'm a Daoist so when I find the elixir of immortality I'm gonna go to the Eastern heaven and laugh it up with dragons and gods. You monotheists are only shortchanging yourselves.
I also get to eat ANYTHING at ANYTIME, pork, meat on fridays during Lent...
I also love the Tantric traditions in northern India.

Tantric=orgies part of worship :twisted:

All right, I've figured out what we have here.

Whoever created this thread is kind of like the people who go into chat rooms and say deliberately stupid and ignorant things like

Ignorant1@yahoo:I hate_______! (Insert ethnicity, sexual preference, religeon vs. Science here)

In order to foment chaos. That's it. That's all there is to it. the longer this thread goes on, the more this ignorant person is sitting back in his chair, jerking his willy-pink and mocking you all.

I'm done. This discussion will forever be unresolved.

So you want this thread to be dead or be horribly spammed?
