Strategicon (Labor Day Weekend)

Post by anneke » Sun Aug 18, 2002 2:11 pm

Strategicon holds a gamers convention three times a year. I think the Labor Day convention is called Gamex (Or maybe Orccon). It's at the LAX Westin, and this year they will be having an Anime Video Room.

I will be running the room and the programming. It will be opening at 8am on Saturday, and running till 8pm on Sunday. With a short 2 hour break at 9pm-11pm on Saturday for another event.

Not only will Anime be shown, but some AMVs and other fan stuff.

We will be showing 'This is Otakudom' at the convention, on Saturday. The convention is at the LAX Westin, for those of you in the LA area.

I'm still looking into showing the DDR 3rd mix, along with other AMVs.

I'll post more details as they become available.

I suspect I'll be down that way on at least one day.

There wasn't much at the Memorial Day Stratigicon, but its said the other two are the more popular ones.

Stop into the Theater/Anime room. I'll be running it. Running the equipment and everything most likely. It's their first attempt at this, and didn't have anyone doing it, so I got it at the last minute. I'm pretty good with putting things together at the last minute. But stop by and say hello. I always like meeting other AMV creators. If you bring a VHS tape of your videos, I may be able to play a few between episodes of what ever as time premits.

I'll certainly stop by.

I suspect the room will be more popular than they anticipate. When I used to help with cons years back, the anime/movie room was always very popular.

I can send you a tape ahead of time if you'd like, or just bring one on the day I attend.

Just bring the tape in.

Just bring the tape with you. There isn't much time between now and then, and I rather you walk it in, then count on a speedy Mail service.

The earlier you bring the tape in, the better chance it has of being shown when there is time between things.

Most anime episodes are 20 min long even with credits. So I have apx. 20 min (rounded down to 10-15) most hours to show filler.

I don't know how well the room will do. We are very limited on what we can show. Due to the convention wanting to be 'family-oriented'. Having worked the convention for years, the people most likely in the theater will be younger kids around the age of 12. (Their parents usually ditch them in the computer room. So now they can be ditched in the video room instead.) Most older people are playing the various games during the day. Later in the evening we will get to show more 'Adult' anime.

I've also kept the anime rather tame because it's the first time doing this, and we don't want to scare the parents right away. After the first year thing will become more flexable. Oh so your videos need to be Children Safe. Atleast for audiences 16 and under. So no Perfect Blue videos please.

I still think it's neat that we will be showing 'This is Otakudom' at the convention. Which will be it's West coast Debute! So I recommend people come out to the convention to see it. It's currently tenatively scheduled for the Afternoon-Late Afternoon on Saturday.

Anime Room

Post by anneke » Tue Aug 27, 2002 11:16 am

I'm finalizing the schedule of what will be shown in the Anime Room. It's going to be very different then what is published as we will have access to showing VHS and DVD. Thus I can show more stuff! Expecially things that are only out in Japan (and I happen to have DVDs for).

This is Otakudom will be shown at 2pm on Saturday!

convention report

Post by anneke » Mon Sep 02, 2002 11:41 pm

Not that any one cares... i ran the anime room at the Strategicon convention, and it went over okay. It was not publicized well, and thus took a while for people to get use to. We were luck in the mornings when we had more then two or three people in the rom. However things such as 'This is Otakudom' and Trigun brought in pretty good crowds. (As in up to 20 or more people).

We had feedback forms and got some pretty good feedback about the videos shown. They really enjoyed 'This is Otakudom' and the AMVs I ended up showing. I will get to run the anime room agan in Febuary. I'm going to have to show even more AMVs and fan parodies. If people have any fan parodys or AMVs they would like shown in a strictly exhibition setting, let me know.

I'm hoping that next time the video room will be better advertised and thus draw in bigger crowds. If anyone is not doing anything president's weekend, and wants to veg out watching anime come on down.

Anneke
P.S. I also got addicted to a game called Munchkins.

Unfortunatly, I wasn't able to get down to that convention at all. Sorry I missed it.

Maybe show one of the DDR AMV projects at the next one? That'll fill time nicely and with the individual videos running about 2 minutes, no one should get bored.
