Another question: is Big O even actually anime, or is it just an American imitation? I watched one ep, and most of the credits were for Japanese names, but Cartoon Network keeps calling it "a Cartoon Network original series" or something like that.

Originally, there were no plans for a second season, as the Big O did not do all that well in Japan. However, following its success during its run on Cartoon Network, and general fan interest in the U.S. for a second season, Cartoon Network and Bandai/Sunrise worked it out to have a second season produced in Japan.

8)

Big-O was not a failure in Japan, it just wasnt as successful as the producers thought it would be. Because it was not a big sales success the plans for a second season were cancelled.

Big-O is set in Paradigm City which has almost all Western culture settings. Alot of Japanese didnt get it and didnt relate to it. But when it was shown in the US by Cartoon Network it was a big hit. When it was reshown in Japan and people had a chance to talk about it between the premiere and the second showing then it was like "Ohhh...I see now" and it has done well.

And as mentioned, since it did so well here in the US Cartoon Network approached Bandai and Sunrise and negotiated a second eason with Cartoon Network picking up 1/2 the production costs, rights to season two, and rights to do a third season if a 3rd season is decided upon.

The way season 2 ended I do not expect a third season.

Yeah, memory serves they said Batman the animated series was kind of an influence on the artwork

BTW Anlu...just to doublecheck, didn't they confirm Paradigm was originally Manhattan?

Call me out of the loop or what you will, but when did the second season come out? I watched the first this summer and was kind of at a loss when I couldn't locate anything past episode 12. How long has it been available? Perhaps I just wasn't looking hard enough.

At least I'm glad to know there is a second season. Now I can finally see everything all resolved (knock on wood).
