I've only read the first volume, I liked it. Given, though, I tend to like most of the things that Kenichi Sonoda does (Gunsmith Cats, Riding Bean, character/mecha designer for BGC 2032).

And I don't think it's exactly small-time; Dark Horse is publishing it.

yeah but i'd heard of dark horse but that s their problem . mabye its just me i bought an issue of it today series 3 no.18 and mabye it is good but from what i saw of it is enough to know to never ever buy it again!

I'm a fan of Cannon God Exaxxion. If you just glance at it, you write it off as a cheap sci/fi series with one busty babe too many. But if you actually read it, you find a great plot and some characters with a lot of depth to them, especially Gun. Acts a little brash at the beginning, but later realizes that it's not so easy to be the hero at all. He was very reluctant to act at some points, because some of his actions would end up killing some of the innocent. If you give it a chance, you may end up liking this one. By the way, am I the only one who thinks that Gun's grandpa puts liquid viagra in the roots of his hair?

So far, no anime version has been made, nor is there one in production. Would be cool if they made an OAV for it.

I really liked gunsmith cats, but Exxaxion just went a little over the top with the pintless fanservice.

Then again, it doesn't even hold an candle in terms of sheer service compared to 95% of all new anime.

I really like Exaxxion. Lots of action, good artwork, and a surprisingly interesting plot if you give it a chance. Plus a little fanservice never hurt anyone.

And it's nice to see someone who isn't afraid to get in the pilot seat of a giant robot for a change (initially at least). I consider Hoichi (Gun) to be sort of the anti-Shinji, which is a refreshing change.
