DVD Ripping

uh.. i just got this kick ass dvd drive for $36 (Can) at a local comp convention and now i want to rip my dvd's onto my brand new 250gb hard drive 8)...how do u do that?
where do you get the programs?
cant even view the dvd's...says i need a decoder?
where do i get that?
help?

As I said just last night in a different thread, you'll want SmartRipper, DVD2AVI, and AVISynth. Then you'll want to R<a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... >EADFAG</a>, which is also where you can find links to the aforementioned programs (off the "Useful Software List" page).

He speaks the truth, the main page has this link to a whole nifty page of nothing but guides. But don't feel bad, anyone asking these stupid questions always gets pointed to the guides so don't feel singled out.

actualy we're actualy just singling you out. most people we actualy take the time to help. but sometiems we're bored and like being cruel barstards

srry bout that, ive been bouncing round this site for years now learning everything i can n when i got the stuff i need i compleatly forgot bout the guide section

n posted in the wrong fourm...

ya...i have windows xp n when i try to use dvd2avi without a codec, fullframes uncompressed, it either crashes or makes the file n does nothing else. No movie in it file size is zero

wuts going on?

Don't use DVD2AVI to save AVI files. Use DVD2AVI to save D2V files (DVD2AVI project files), then write AVISynth scripts for the D2Vs and load the scripts into VirtualDub, THEN use VirtualDub to save the AVI files.

Or, perhaps a better idea: Use <a href="http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net">VirtualDubMod</a> to open the VOBs directly, bypassing DVD2AVI entirely, and save the AVIs without any intermediate steps. I just tried loading up a VOB in VDubMod, and it went off without a hitch; however, there's been no guide written for this method yet, so you might feel safer using DVD2AVI, AVISynth, and VDub.

I feel like I've been overusing the phrases "Don't use DivX source" and "Don't use DVD2AVI to save AVI files" in the past month or so...

Crap. Forgot to mention: If you're the kind who likes editing directly with AVISynth scripts (like me), then the second method will do nothing for you. In that case, you just save the DVD2AVI project files, write AVISynth scripts for them, and feed those into your editing software.

I have always used claddvd and flaskmpeg to rip and encode. I have not had many problems with flask, and never any problems with claddvd. You can find both programs at www.divx-digest.com.
