It's........NOT.........anime!!!!!!
Okay. I just felt the need to do a little rant.
Now, as much as I LOVE them, the following series are not anime:
1. Transformers (The origional series. I'm well aware that TF:Armada is anime.).
2. Powerpuff Girls.
3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
WHY does everyone seem to think these series are anime? Can anyone explain this to me? It's driving me crazy cause everytime the USA actually makes a good cartoon everyone assumes it's from Japan.
The whole Ninja Turtles thing irritates me the most (FYI, it's my fave American toon). It was created by 2 guys in my home state for cryin' out loud.
What're the opinions of you guys on this? I really wanna know.

The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (manga and anime) was done in Japan. Later, there was an Americanized version (in which all the turtles had different colored masks and bands, to help distinguish them). I used to have a calendar around somewhere that had the manga portrayal of the TMNT's.
The original Transformers was definately anime. But they pulled a "Teknoman" on it (changed character names, like "Decepticons" isn't an obvious clue, right?). I think Go-Bots was American though.
Powerpuff Girls has to be American. If I remember right, Cartoon Network did that contest with a slew of rookie animators and their pet projects about five or six years back, in order to see which one would become the next Cartoon Network original series. Dexter's Lab was the big winner, but a few of the other shows (Robot Jones, Powerpuff Girls, etc) were eventually produced with Cartoon Network's assistance, so they wouldn't have to run the same old Looney Tunes reruns (I'm sorry, but 40+ years of reruns gets way too dull).

Wasn't that the "What a Cartoon" show, an ongoing thing? I remember the PPG episode they showed on it the first time I saw them was the one with the Amoeba Brothers being such pathetic criminals that the PPGs had to show them how it was done.Toecutter wrote:Powerpuff Girls has to be American. And yeah, I'm pretty sure Dexter's Laboratory was already running. I'm also pretty sure that that was Genndy Tartakovsky's first series (to be followed by PPG, Samurai Jack, and I forget what else).
