While not officially anime, the Rankin-Bass versions of The Hobbit and the Return of the King had several people involved in the animation staff that would later become famous in anime (I can't remember the full list, unfortunately, it was in NTUSA)
Those movies were horrible though.
Are you on crack? Those movies were great I love the animated return of the king while the one playing right now isnt as good as the two towers. The one that ruined that series was the retarded Lord of the rings done by that horrid Ralph bakashi

I really don't know my Transformers that well. But I was fairly certain that the original show was American.

The story I've always heard is that the toys were released in Japan by Takara, Hasbro brought them stateside, and then Hasbro made the TV Show to act as a reallyreallyreally long commercial to help them sell. No research done here, so don't take it as fact or anything.

Since anime is a french word then add Asterix and the smurfs to your list of anime. This has been covered in new type if you truly want to distinguish animation then call it Japanimation.

Heh heh...that's the one thing a lot of people don't seem to realize about that version of ROTK...one of the reasons Rankin-Bass did that was they were trying to clean up the mess Bakshi left (anyways, while it's not as good, that one had it's moments...and as for the Hobbit...I'm sorry, I loved that one)

Totally Spies... ::shudders:: Anime Sensei III loves it for some reason unknownst to me.

I think it's interesting that a lot of American cartoons these days have anime-like qualities, like Teen Titans. At the same time, though, I kind of worry that it'll have a negative effect on real anime. Only time will tell, I guess.

I was once advised never to actually say that word, because some Japanese people will mistake it for "Jap animation" and be extremely offended.

U can't really call it that either. Japanimation isnt a word. Its slang for Japanese Animation created by some shmuck that barley knows english. The only people that use that word are the uneducated f*cktards that dont know what real Anime is and call it that to try and make themselvs look like they know what they are talking about. That goes for the same people that call the PowerPuff Girls and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Anime. There maybe Anime or Manga ADAPTATIONS to American Shows, but that dosen't make it anime and everyone who thinks so needs to have their heads smashed in with a frikkin bat.

Thats for sure. I just got back from Okinawa with the Marines. When I was out there, one of my drunkass (dumbass) friends called the Japanese officer there a jap. He's in the brig now. I would highly recomend against calling the Japanese people japs.
