Anime degrading gurls ... ... i dont really think so ... if its doing any degrading, it would be on the guys ... i mean look at love hina, gurls kicking guys butt to many times ... ... and there are more examples, but i aint gonna get into that ... I kno i kno u might say that all the anime gurls are great looking and it is true that great looking people sell ... but the personality of those anime characters are the same as real people ... the sadness, happiness, etc, we all feel that, the creators might look past the real looks of people but they dont overlook the personality of real people ... i think that's wat counts ... look at Beldandy from AMG ... she is a great person and im sure there is someone like her out there in the real world ... 8) ... well thats my two cents on that ...

I don't think it's much of an issue really.
The people who go on about how anime is degrading to women and subliminally sexual usually only see the extreme examples.
Like saying all video games are violent and are all about shooting things because they heard about GTA3 on the news (a game I don't even like).
They think this because it's all they have been exposed too, and their experiences are the limit of their consciousness.
If they could think for themselves and go beyond the sterotypes, they'd see a sub-sulture that is as full, if not more full, than most others in all the world. Anime shows people of all types, doing all sorts of things, and while we only see a small minority in the west, at roots, anything and everything has been and is anime, in some form or another.
The fact that most anime women are good looking, if not impossibly so, really doesn't come into it in my opinion.
I can tell the difference between reality and fantasy (most of the time), so I have no delusions about body shape and/or my ability to fly and perform super human feats while inside a giant fighting robot.

Let me say something more general:
If people need to find a reason to hate anime (whether a particular title or in general), they'll find one. If they need to like it, they'll look past any problems. It's the approach. Nothing is ever perfect or totally politically correct. Except maybe Jesus cartoons. But don't get me started on those

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

yeah i know. It's like my best girlfriends and they do it to me to I guess it's a type of flirting for us
Bieng a christian, i look at anime not as something evil as some of my christian friends do (saying its from the devil). Sure I dont agree with some of the themes of some anime. For instance, i skipped the 2 episodes of Jupiter Jazz in Cowboy Bebop of that one ummm...guy with breasts. Plus my mom was in the room with me (my eyes bugged out when i saw that).
But it annoys me when people try and find out reasons to hate anime (like my friends). And saying "anime is offensive to women or whatever" is a perfect example. Look at Koaru from Kenshin (*gasp* im not talking bout faye valentine for once!). She beats the crap out of Kenshin almost every episode. Sure, she's preety but she doesn't have like a awesome figure. (nor does any girl in the series really).
This is what makes a girlhot and/or sexy: If she can use a sword and fight me.
If she would be able to beat me, I'd propose to her right there

Incase my first post wasn't clear enough, I'll restate my position (not 'cause I'm pretentious, because I have time to kill)
The *general* anime portrayal of women is not at all bad. There aren't as many leading female roles as male roles (atleast that I've seen, for all I know there are more female roles throughout anime as a whole than male roles), but that's probably based on the audience they're aiming at. A lot of guys want to see the series through a guys eyes so it is easier to relate.
As for all anime women being perfectly good looking and perfect personality for every single woman, there are two main reasons why this is so -
A) It sells. Think of all the anime wall scrolls you've seen. And do you think people would be thousand dollar crystal casts of Ayanami Rei if she was fat & ugly?
B) Anime = fantasy. No reason to have an unappealing fantasy, and as stated it's the same way in all other visual media.
But, of course, just because it is so does not make it right.
Why is it right? Well, why isn't it right? Humanity is flawed look wise & personality wise, true, but people that are going to get so wrapped up in fantasy that they can't accept humanity aren't all that well off anyway, and are prone to such things to begin with, not like we can stop that no matter what. Looks wise it is very true that nearly every woman is gorgeuos enough to die for, but so what? I'm not going to tell someone they can look like a slob and sexy, too me personally. Anyone can look good if they put effort into it. As for personality, I don't even think female personalities are that exaggerated in anime. Anime characters have their personality flaws too, it's hard to base any story on perfect characters. Anything that encourages people to be the best person they can be is alright by me.
