The first thing that really interested me about anime was the art, but after delving into it more, I found that it has a rich supply of stories and lessons. These are the things that really kept me watching.

The reason I got into anime and manga? Somebody said something about it being like a book and a movie mixed together, and I kind of feel the same way. I've always been an avid reader and have a passion for writing, and I love characterization, plot, symbolism, all those literary elements. Regular Americanized comic books and cartoons didn't offer that, while anime and manga does. It's a fantasy world with the captivating action, the colors, the beautiful art, but it has a concrete story and a progressive plot with symbols and archetypes and all the things that make up a good-ass story, instead of being a string of episodes that really have no connection besides similar characters and themes.

Plus, anime/manga make great bases for fanfiction and are totally inspiring to a fantasy writer! Plus, they introduce you to weird people like yourself, which is always a good thing.

Lately, to keep my somewhat-poor Japanese from rusting over. I only watch anime subbed (sometimes not looking at the subs), and I only read manga in Japanese (it's more fun that way).

In general - it's a good source of quality entertainment. What else is there to say. I think there have been topics as to why people prefer anime over American cartoons and movies. I'm not gonna go there.

It's just my preferred mode of entertainment, nothing else to it

Though it might sound weird, but I got into anime because a good majority of it deals with Martial Arts. Back in '92 I had just started out doing martial arts and one day I was flipping through the channels, I came upon Ronin Warriors. It intrigued me to the point of interest. I suppose not only anime deals with martial arts, but since it comes from a country immersed in martial arts, it seems more saturated with it. Later I got attrated to storylines and comedic value (sometime during 95 or so). Quite frankly, there weren't any american shows that dealt with the topics I found enjoyable, so anime was my only outlet. Actually its still true to this day.

I just enjoy animation as a whole. My Rei Ayanami plush is currently leaning against a Donald Duck alarm clock.

Anime drew me in simply because it was animated. The deeper, more involved plots kept me in.

Just nod your head and admit you are obsessed with Faye Valentine because she is TEH HOT not because she has some obscure personal traits that make her unique and what not.
sur eshe's very attractive but i find her attractive by her personality beccause she can fend for herself.

But i also find Kaoru and Misao from Kenshin attractive. They aren't the best looking girls in a anime series but they can kick male butt. They can use weapons. I said this earlier in a different threead but i find a anime character who can use a sword is down right sexy.

now i got out what i meant in the starting of this thread.

I find the plot line is very important. Sure i think graphics or the drawing is a huge issue too.

A anime may be drawn very good but it may have horrible plotline (i.e. FCLC..i hate the show). Now a anime may have a awesome plot line but may have horible animation (i.e. Transformers.) It hard to watch a show that has one strong point but one weak point. If a anime that has a balance of both, then thats a good anime (on my standrads at least).

The reason i like anime and mangas is because it is unlike any other Americanized cartoons ... Like many of the people above me said, anime is a fantasy world and it is great .... unlike other American cartoons, anime has a better more indept meaning that us more mature people will be able to grasp and enjoy ... Reading mangas are enjoyable and it is more detailed than some anime series so thats y i read it, they even have some things that the tv-series doesnt have .. for example, in love hina the tv-series, it doesnt get into much about the promise gurl but in the manga it goes into much more detail, its wonderful ... :) ... i can go on forever about mangas but thats all imma say for now ... i hope u got the animes u asked for Christmas ... ;)
