A confusing video editing question

Hello guys, thanks for taking a few seconds off your time to check this little post. I apologize if this has already been asked and/or for my newbieness =P

I'd like to know if there is a way to 'merge' two video files (avi or whatever) into a single video file that plays at the same time. Let me explain myself. I'd like to add in some nice animations and a GUI-like enviroment into an avi.

I can create the GUI and the other animations on either GIF animations or another avi file, however I haven't found an editing software that enables me to have both video sources running at the same time.

If anyone can help me with this, I'd certainly appreciate it!

Run TMPGEnc and see if it'll merge them. I'm 95 percent sure that TMPGEnc only does MPEG, but it's worth a chance.

TMPGEnc would concatenate the sources - it would not play them on top of each other. At least from reading his question I think that's what he's asking.

Basically you need to get a program that allows you to have multiple video layers going at once. Almost any video editing program will do this. You simply need to set a certain color or an alpha channel on one layer to be transparent and overlay it on top of the other AVI file.

Adobe Premeiere is probably the best by far at simple compositing(layering/tracking) and keying(removing things, making them transparent, like a color or alpha channel).

Pretty much you if you have a gif and the main part is a single color(like green or blue), then you can use Premire's chroma key, to key out that certain color(makes it transparent other tracks will show through it).

You can do this with basically any source, animated gif, avi, bitmap...

Hey, BattousaiPR, does that stand for public relations?

Reminds me, why the hell didn't kenshin just hire some public relations representative instead of dealing with his past? That's what Enron executives did and it's fabulously easy and cheap! Even *I* have a public relations guy writing my next presentation right now!

Well Misato could use a computer in Evangelion, so I guess she could probably be one of the greatest amv creators evar!
