Huffyuv problom
Ok I hust got myself a nice new huge hard drive so I could handle the amout of space for good quality video. I use DVD decrypter to get the vob files then I run those through DVD2AVI using Huffyuv as my compressor, but all I get is files and files of static. It looks like its running fine in DVD2AVI but it always comes out as static. Can anyone help me with this?

DVD2AVI, in our line of "work," isn't traditionally used to actually CREATE AVI files (despite what its name may imply). We create "project" files within it, which AVIsynth uses to frame-serve the VOB's MPEG-2 video stream to the editing programs (whether it be VirtualDub, Premiere, etc).
Plus, like Zarxrax said, unless you're making the AVI files a specific way, yeah, you're going to get lots of static garbage out.
Since you've got a nice big hard drive, now, you may want to simply look into creating project files, making AVS files that point to them, and making low-quality AVI files for the "switch" method. It's outlined halfway decently in ErMaC and AbsoluteDestiny's "Guide to All Things Video," which you can find in the "Guides" section of the main site. Might take a couple read-throughts, but it can be done ^^

sigh....... I guess theres no way around it. I was hoping getting this hard drive would let me get by with out avisynth because Ive spent many agravating nights trying to understand that thing. If anyone would be kind enough to try and help me understand it, my aim is EndlessD3lirium. thank you in advance.

Is the menu setting: "video" -> "color space" -> "RGB 24-bit" set before trying to export the avi?Genjo_Sanzo wrote:Ok I hust got myself a nice new huge hard drive so I could handle the amout of space for good quality video. Fuck that, if his system is halfway decent then he can edit the project files directly, like me, and do away with the whole middle step of creating over-compressed MJPEG files. The thing with that is, if you want to use any colour keying effects, then over-compressed video is bad, as the colours undergo all sorts of compression that changes them.VegettoEX wrote:Since you've got a nice big hard drive, now, you may want to simply look into creating project files, making AVS files that point to them, and making low-quality AVI files for the "switch" method. But for the user whose system isnt really all that good, MJPEG switching is fast and relatively easy.
So whatever your system can handle, dude.

AVS + MPEG2 decoding = slow. If you add more on top of it, it gets worse.
If you're going to be doing color key work(which you really should use mattes/alpha channels). Export the segments you need as huffYUV(from the AVS in vdub) and then import them into your project.
If you want to use DVD2AVI, try getting ahold of DVD2AVI 1.86...

My Athlon XP 2000+ (1.67GHz) has no problem with editing the VOBs directly... and I've only got 512 MB of RAM, if that affects anything. I had 32 AVS files in my last project, and I probably used about 18 or more of them.NicholasDWolfwood wrote:Halfway decent being 2Ghz or more? My 1.4Ghz Athlon can't handle editing the vobs directly. I don't think even a P4 3.06Ghz can really handle editing more than 4 avs files directly.
