You guys are always building yourselves up for a disappointment. Regardless of how they make it, good, bad, whatever, you'll only be willing to accept what's wrong with it. Where's your sense of adventure? I may be crap, I'll give you that. It may be phenomenal. But you won't see it- you'll only see what's wrong. It's so disappointing to see so many people with closed minds, who are already willing to accept failure, so much so that they're willing to blind themselves to anything else.

Sorry, guys, I can't help but pity you.
Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Condemning us?

Where is your sense of foresight? Just becuase we condemn the movie now does not mean we won't be able to enjoy it!

All odds point to the likely possibility that the movie will be crap and have so many things wrong with it that it will ruin Evangelion fandom for the rest of forever. But that doesn't mean I won't enjoy seeing it. Come on, just because someone points out all the things that are going to be wrong with it doesn't mean they won't like it. Really, if I sat here saying "Aw man this is gonna rock! I bet Rei will look so cool as a live action person!" I wouldn't be able to enjoy the movie at all, because when it turns out that Rei is some black haired random nobody that ruins my favorite character of all time, I'll be to dissapointed to enjoy it, but if I already accept the likely possibility that Rei isn't going to be anything as good as the real Rei was, then I won't be dissapointed when it comes true and I'll be able to enjoy the movie more. That's the way it works for me, understanding all the likely downfalls will only make what they do do good right a whole lot better. Maybe they won't actually marginalize Rei's character, then I'll be even happier. But if I start off the bat and say this movie is going to be really sweet, as sweet as an Evangelion live action movie should rightfully be, I'll never enjoy the movie because that's most likely a lie and then I will be let down.

Personally, I don't plan to go into the movie with any real expectations, because I really don't know what to expect. I expect there will be some cool-lookin' Evas and Angels and some kickin' effects, but that's about it. I have no idea how they intend to fit a viable Eva story into 3 hours or less, so I'm not going to try to figure out the possibilities beforehand. I'll accept that the movie probably won't stay completely true to the original plot, and I'll enjoy it for what it is, rather than condemn it for what it isn't, as best I can.

And even if it does turn out to be bad, it won't diminish my enjoyment of the animated version any.

That's what I was trying to say in the first place, but I guess I got caught up. Just appreciate it for what it is (will be) and don't condemn it for what it isn't (won't be). After all, when it comes down to brass tacks.... it's just a story.

I asked Gainax yesterday, and they confirmed my suspicion that Evangelions don't really exist. :(

They're actually a dummy company of the Marduk Institute. You're just not up to speed if you haven't read the newspapers about the Second Impact four years ago.

Eh, I don't plan on going willie-nilly into the darkness and allow them to do whatever the hell they want to my favorite work of art. I'll enjoy whatever it is that they put out (provided that they make some attempt to make a good movie) but I'm not willing to simply except it as is. If they ruin my favorite thing I'll condemn it, plus there will be a lot of people that have never heard of Evangelion before who are going to have to know what stupid things where added that really shouldn't have been in there.
