I'm fairly certain "Ayanamiare" is just a pure typo, they'd never change Rei's name. (Though, that crazy concept art gave me a really bad nightmare where Cartoon Network decided to remake Evangelion as an american Cartoon, and I went on to the website and it turns out they changed Rei's name to Oeasia or something like that!)

I'm almost afraid of posting here, because this post seems to be dying or something like that. Anyways, I don't know if anyone said these things, I read most of the posts, but here goes:

1. Directors-- Weta Workshop = Peter Jackson as a possible director.
Or also the Wachowski brothers recently left their movie project, maybe they'll be brought or come to this one.
Furthermore, there are a lot of good "comic-book movies" coming out in recent times, improved over past efforts, any of these directors or new ones have a shot at making a good movie, but therein lies the risk that the director will lose his reputation if he screws up on such a potentially long project, so whoever it is they will either have to be not big yet, or have big cajones.

You don't have to read the rest if you don't want to I mostly wanted people to read the above section.

2. Rei's hair-- X-men Movies Mrs. Storm's hair doesn't look entirely natural but it looks pretty damn decent in my view, now as long as they use light blue hair like Rei's colour it could work. The problem would be getting the hair cut right.

3. Actors-- Hopefully they'll use a bunch of famous actors for roles which can allow for a certain adjustment to the look, so they can allow themselves use of actors that fit the look for the the three main pilots, granted casting Shinji, Asuka and Rei will be hard. Rei would be the easiest in my opinion because her character is in many ways subdued so they could bring in a new actress have her act out her roles then teach her some skills ( :) ) ok don't laugh, and then have her do the more emotional roles. Shinji as long as they find a good child actor they'll be ok, and there are plenty, the problem here is they might go for someone we know at the loss of someone Shinji like. Asuka-- my goodness this will be tough, can they get a child actress that will be able to live up to her? I have faith, not that it will be easy, maybe they search in Ireland? Other characters wouldn't be that hard, although Misato would be a bit of challenge in getting someone who can portray her correctly.

Also, the actors could be made to look younger ala the Lord of the Rings Hobbit characters...

4. Alternative-- If they create an alternate story with different characters, etc. then they can change things. I am neither for nor against this, it might make for the best story.

5. That being said I am sure they are aware of fan sensitivities, as they are making this movie first to draw the fans and then the general audience, so they will try to make things agreable for fans in some way while still allowing a greater appeal. If they don't know this I don't think they'd be making this movie, I mean they don't want to fail.

6. Past precendents of such movies don't look good, but note one important thing. 2003 was an awesome year for movies, I think that Hollywood is taking a hint and improving their movies (that said some movies were bad, but come on it was a good year, maybe the best yet).

7. Maybe they'll do the movie in a flashback, with big name actors as the three pilots and relatively unknowns as the pilots.

8. Changing the names-- Gee I wonder if they will, they just might not, but if they do I don't think they'll use such a bad name as Kate Rose, they'll come up with something cool. Likely Rei will keep her name, I hope they don't decide to spell it Ray, I don't know I think changing it like this would be even worse than changing her name totally. They might keep the names with the exception of the harder ones. Asuka, Shinji, Rei, not hard to say... don't know what will happen to the last names, although Ikari shouldn't be changed it symbollically fits his family name.

9. Symbolism, Religious-- I think they'll tone it down a bit or at least keep it obscure in the first movie, i.e. if your looking you'll see it, if your not you won't. This could be a problem, but by the time it's released I think it won't be such a problem, and even if they do it won't matter, controversy of this type usually helps a movie.

10. Setting-- Ok this will probably be in some future city, maybe not even mentioned which location until later, possible New York, or they might stick with Tokyo, but make it a very worldlike Tokyo with people of all types.

Hopefully this optimism of mine is not unfounded.
I hope the movie gets made, but made well.

you are obsessed with 'big name' actors. why??

Just because you have famous actors doesnt mean the film will suceed.......... i mean, lets say we got arnie to be gendo

'Sir, shinjis body is missing

Hell be back..................

come on, having actors youve seen in other films doesnt relly help, sure its nice to see a good actor that you like, but it will detract from the film, also, the film will probrably be an adaptation, so doesnt have to follow the entirety of NGE

Location.... hmm, doesnt really matter does it? Does it have to be set in japan, not really, we think it has to be, due to the anime.... but hey, how about its set in France for example............. we get to see paris get blown up repeatedly.. that would be good ...........

Whatever actors/actoresses are best for the part are best for the parts. I'd preffer seeing actors I've never seen before, but I never recognize any but the most obvious actors so it won't matter to me.

As for setting. It doesn't have to be in Tokyo, but if it's in some pathetic Sci-Fi apocolyptic super city that would ruin the setting of the show in some ways. It really depends on what the story of the movie is though, and what angle they are aiming for. Character age is very important though. You can not make Rei, Asuka, & Shinji into 30 year olds, that ruins pretty much everything. 17 or 18 I suppose could work, but the obviously logical route to go would be to have the pilots 14, even if the actors are anywhere from 14-16. Thinking about it, maybe around 17 would be the best, I don't know, I've never seen an Evangelion live action movie.

I hope it wasn't me you were talking about when you called it an obsession for big name actors.

To clarify, it's ok with me if they use unknown or relatively unkown actors. The thing is a big name actor doesn't matter to me, but to a lot of people this lends the film a sense of legitimacy and having at least a few big actors can lend a film the credibility it needs to not only to find success in the box office but to find success before the box office i.e. during filming and production (granted a big name actor could also ruin a film, but this is less likely especially if you get big names without the big egos).

So my whole point in suggesting that there could be big name actors would be to allow this film at least a gleam of success. It could succeed without big names but it would certainly be easier with. Obviously the big names should not just be big names for the sake of big names, they should be great actors who fit a role.

This is part of the reason I have no idea who should play the kids, they're kids and there aren't that many well known kid actors let alone actors that will be kids when the filming starts. A few big name actors on set could also possibly give these kids some pointers or at least inspiration making it potentially a better film.
