OK here's the deal. Pioneer have always (well they might have gotten better, not wait. they haven't) His name is Alucard. Arucard and any other variations including those bastardly -o variations are poorly researched translations. That "o" sound is a Japanese habit of ending nouns in with vowels.
Alucard -> Dracula backwards, coincidence? I doubt it.
Lain is also a series that has had it's fair share of translation mishaps in regard to names.
And Chobits... make your minds up damnit. Chi or Chii (check the credits and you might understand what I'm talking about)

Hey Oni, what's wrong with the Japanese dub, besides the lack of British accents?

When I watched it on fansub it was clearly spelled Chii becaise before every episode the title appeared in hiragana, and almost every episode (or maybe it WAS every episode) had her name in it, and it was always spelled Chii in the hiragana.

Here are the facts.

I know the guy who worked on the American release of Hellsing.

1) It's ALUCARD. It's DRACULA spelled backwards. END OF STORY. However, the idiots at the executive level wouldn't let this be corrected and no matter how many times the guy's head was smashed against a wall, they wouldn't change it to ALUCARD.

2) The woman's name is Victoria. Victoria is her FIRST NAME. It is the Japanese tradition to put the family name first and the actual name last. Her first name is Victoria... but in the actualy Japanese, they have Victoria said last in Japanese form. Often, when anime is brought to America, they write the names in the form we Americans are used to (like in Ranma 1/2, they have the name as Ranma Saotome, even though the Japanese would say Saotome Ranma)

However, for some reason they didn't decide to make this correction in the US Relese... but her FIRST NAME is Victoria.

3) It's the Templars... not the Church Knights.

However... my friend has already bludgeoned his head against the wall of executives who don't have any interest in literature, history, regional FACTS or pure common sense... and so a lot that should have been fixed on the US release never was.

And anyone who wants to use the "well, that's how its written on the box/that's how its written in the subtitles" argument... I might point out that US release of Zeonic Front for PS2 has a battle set in NEW YARK CITY. Now... is the city New Yark because the game says it is... or are you going to use some common sense?

THANK YOU! I had been hoping for a long time that that was the case (I just couldn't bring myself to call her "Ceres" or "Seras" or whatever) but had never gotten it confirmed. Sweetness.

Her father was also named Victoria. Was that his first name as well?
